EasySocial - Social Network Extension for Joomla – Review
Posted by Kaloyan Banev on Wednesday, 30 October 2013 in Web design & Development

As probably everybody knows - Joomla is one of the most flexible and powerful CMS, that can fit into any kind of web project. Thought until recently there wasn't a decent enough component for Joomla that is lightweight, fast, based on latest technology and with functionality that can match Facebook. Then EasySocial came!

Some of the loyal members and readers of WebmaisterPro, knows that we previously used JomSocial as our main component, however recently we've switched to EasySocial by StackIdeas. READ MORE on the Review... Click reference link below:
Thanks for sharing Randall. What will they saw when they see what v2.0 will do?

John,

EasySocial V1.1 is getting lots of Green COMPLETED STATUS items. Just a few more items to go.

I think Marc is planning to surprise us with the EasyDiscuss + EasySocial Integration, and when this is available I will have what I really need to get my site online.

Maybe Marc will give us a teaser on EasyDiscuss and EasySocial 1.1. ???

Thanks for sharing Randall, highly appreciate that!

I am preparing comparison review between all popular social network components for Joomla, as well as on few stand-alone scripts. I guess it is still early to talk about v2 of EasySocial, but for sure every next version will be better than the previous one!

Cheers

Kaloyan,

You are welcome. I found the review when I was searching for EasySocial extensions integration earlier today. Your Review of EasySocial is a very Good well written review. I was wondering if the version of EasySocial you are using is up to date? V1.0.5. I found a left sidebar issue when I logged into the site today. Minor issue with language string in left sidebar area. The update to ES v1.0.5 should fix this.

Are you doing a comparison review for publication, or just for your own use?

I've compared many scripts and used to use Jomsocial but made the decision to wait for StackIdeas to come out with EasySocial. Best decision I made. Don't know of any other small developer where you get to participate in suggesting new features and testing, and get world class support. It's like having your own development team for under $350 a year for all extensions.

I am thinking about contributing a Guest article on WebmaisterPro news site. I'll contact you when I get closer to writing the article. I used to write tech articles for the Mac years ago. Maybe it is time to start again.

I will use my own experience and thoughts from few of my colleagues.

Warning Spoiler: The review will put accent on ongoing expenses related to maintenance and hosting, as well as security issues related to spam handling.

I have to admit that I did the same and I kept my extension outdated for more than 6 months. Lucky for me EasySocial started a moment before I was planning to upgrade.

Testing is a tough call, I used to keep project management and version control software, aiming to sort bugs in many scripts. Well, this didn't worked quite well in the last 2 years and recently I discontinue this option on my website to reduce high CPU and RAM consumption on my server.

Speaking of reviews, are there plans of getting EasySocial in the Joomla extension directory?

Thanks guys, it feels really good to see EasySocial being the talk of the town Of course, this is only the first version of EasySocial. Imagine what we could do in the span of 4 - 5 years if you compare us with other extensions

Josh, we already submitted our extension on JED but it's still being moderated It's almost a month now.

I hear the JED can sometimes take a long time to be approved.

Yup it does take a little longer than usual but I guess I could understand since they need to go through each files to check for a valid GPL license

Mark,

Will they have to go through every file again to approve everything again for v1.1 and v2.0 etc, or just changed files?

I guess the first version takes the longest. At the complexity of EasySocial I guess there are a lot of files to go through.

I don't think the subsequent version is an issue but normally the initial approval process is the longest
