When I link a Twitter post into the Timeline of an Event, the full image or images appear and work correctly for viewing when clicked on (a pop up of the post on the Twitter account) and videos in twitter posts can be played within the event timeline (see link below).

However I am unable to achieve a similar solution when linking to a Facebook post (right click on the date stamp in the post and copy link), as only part of the post appears in the Event Timeline - normally the text and top area of images and just a link for videos.

Is this the current output solution for FB links into Event Timeline or is there a way to get FB posts to appear in a similar way to Twitter posts, that work perfectly?

I am able to get round the issue by copying the FB images on Snagit, then copying the FB text into my own timeline post and uploading the images (see this event timeline but this is not a long term solution.
Hi Richard,

It appears there are some issues regarding Facebook and Twitter sharing in EasySocial links. I will log this in our tracker.

As for what the proper fix would be, I will discuss with the developers first because different sites have different end results in terms of link sharing so the solution has to cater for different sites.

Thank you for the update Raymond, I will continue with the temporary workaround until you get more information from the developer.

Thank you Arlex, after further testing, if it helps the developer, the problem seems to be with FB/Twitter posts that have multiple/collage images, as not all of the image area above the text in the FB/Twitter post appears in the timeline:

Facebook and Twitter Posts shared into Event timeline

1.Single image or video above text - shared perfectly into the Event timeline
2.Two images side by side - shared perfectly into the Event timeline
3.Two images, one below the other - a height issue, only the top image and part of the bottom image is shown in the timeline with the text
4.Multiple images - a height and width issue, only part of the width/height of images area is shown in the timeline with the text
5.Collage images - similar to multiple images

I just noticed one other issue Raymond, the 'Click to enter Fullscreen' button does not work for Facebook Videos (Twitter, YouTube and Vimeo are fine).

Hey Richard,

Perhaps you can start a new thread for this other issue so our moderator can easier to follow up your current issue.

Thanks for understanding.

Update after moving to v3.1 - confirmation vertical and horizontal Facebook Videos now work in the stream (thank you), can be viewed without leaving the stream and the fullscreen button is fixed (twitter videos were already working correctly).

The volume control button is hidden and off in the initial vertical view, so the user has to go to fullscreen and turn the volume on, before going back to the original viewing size with volume on, perhaps this can be checked for a possible solution in a future update.

Ref items 2 to 5 above (height issue of images and multiple images), Twitter links placed in the stream show multiple images correctly (I think height is ok now).

Although the proper height and multiple images do not work on Facebook links yet, if I copy/save/download the individual images from FB and then upload them to a single post or album in the stream, i can get the desired output without too much extra time involved (in case anyone else with the same issue needs a workaround until it is fixed).

Hey Richard,

Can you provide us the link to some sample stream items experiencing the issues you described so we can better understand this?

Hi Raymond, I have added 7 posts to a completed/past event from the following Facebook Page and if you scroll down the FB page you will see the original content compared to how it looks in the event stream.

The stream posts will be visible to guest access or use member access if required.

When copying the link for the posts, I click on the date and use part of the url up to where the ID numbers finish (usually at a ?) instead of the very long full url, as it provides the same output.

In the Event stream, starting with the first/latest post:

1. 2 vertical images side by side (only top half appears in stream, but all of pictures in fullscreen) uploaded from m laptop after downloading from a post on the FB page on 17 June at 20:43)**
2. A horizontal video linked from a post on the FB page on 17 June at 18:43
3. 4 images uploaded from my laptop, after downloading from 2 posts on the FB page (2 horizontal images on 16 June at 17:58 and 2 vertical images on 17 June at 20:43)**
4. 2 vertical images side by side (only one appears, stretched to horizontal view), linked from a post on the FB page on 17 June at 20:43**
5. 2 horizontal images, one above the other (only the top image appears), linked from a post on the FB page on 18 June at 09:26
6. A single vertical image (only top half appears), linked from a post on the FB Page on 19 June at 09:52
7. A vertical video linked from a post on the FB page on 19 June at 19:08 (controls only visible on fullscreen view)

**The same two vertical images

Additional issues:

1. When filtering past events by 'sort by closest date' the sequence starting from the top of the page is from the earliest date in ascending order each year, not the correct/most recent date and descending order without starting again for a different year (descending image date within each year is the current incorrect sequence).

2. There are two event filters, how do I get the default visible filter to be 'sort by recently added' instead of 'sort by closest date'?

Suggestion

Members and Visitors will still wish to look at an event stream for a period of time after the event is completed, but the event is automatically hidden in past events as soon as it is over.

If a 'Hide Event After' global field was in admin settings and the number of days is entered (default is always 7 days if not changed) it would solve the problem.

Add a Hide Event field in setting up an event that could override the global default.

I hope the above is helpful to the developers assigned to solve the issues.

Hey Richard,

Can you create a new thread regarding the issues you have with events so our forum moderators can work on several of your issues simultaneously?

I will focus on your link/image issues for now.

Thanks Richard.

Regarding your photo preview height on your stream items, the vertical ones appear cropped because they are set to 'fill up' the image container as determined at Settings>Photos>Layout>Resize Mode.

If you want to show the full photo, then you have to switch the resize mode to Stretch to fit. However, this also means that there will be gaps between the photos. The system cannot make both the width and height full because it will distort the image.

You can also change around the Photo Aspect Ratio setting as you may be able to view more of the vertical images with other options.

Regarding the video player controls, I have consulted our designer previously while I was testing the player control fix.

Unfortunately, this is out of our control as Facebook has fixed their player control width, meaning it's not responsive. Currently the only way you can show all the controls is to expand the component's width on the page.

For example, you can see the full player controls if the right sidebar is not there(https://take.ms/zd07W).

For shared links, it is not possible to show more than 1 image. All link sharing in EasySocial is standardized to show 1 image only.

Thank you for looking at all the issues and answers, much appreciated and they allow me to mark the ticket resolved as i understand what is possible now.

I checked the different initial stream image options and 16:9 with Tile and Stretch to Fill work best for me, so I will run with that combination and continue to use download/upload for multiple images (download/upload actually allows more flexibility with the images in other areas, for example blog post and matches in the Sport section, so overall a better route for me).

Ref the FB vertical video volume control, i tried on mobile today and the video plays automatically with sound when clicked, so it is only a desktop problem that can be corrected (as you suggest) by removing the sidebar items on the Event Menu.

Thank you again for your help!
