ES's article app has a character limit option which is great! But it does not have a character limit option for the plugin when inserting an article into the stream. This is problematic because not only is it inconsistent but displays an entire article inside my followers stream. With big articles this is an issue because they have to do a lot of scrolling to get to see the next stream item. I'd make a screen shot but it would take way too many. No one wants their entire news feed taken up by a single article. If someone posted multiple articles it would be a huge mess!

So what I'm proposing is an option on the article plugin that allows the administrator to limit the number of display characters (this should apply to updated and new articles). This could theoretically help a little bit with page speed and bandwidth use due to loading less content. So in short there are a lot of advantages to adding this.
