Hello,

Although im happy with easydiscuss, its still not so easy to do any configuration to get it how i want.
Im sure many bought it, but also thought that it was easy to make it look like how stackideas it has set

But its clear (as said to me by mail) that the looks of stackideas forum are custom.
But let me ask you this, and do look at photoshop screenshot.

At first i had a ask question button in the bar. For some stupid reason that disapeared Then i noticed the ask mod so installed that.
So at least a question can be asked.....so where did the other button go?

Im not talking about ask question layout !

Second.....the way i have it shows multiple select categorie menu's?
Why is that? its taking to much space.....

And did anyone checked the layout in IE10 ??
See image 2

It looks a bit like a style sheet conflict, have you checked with FF and Firebug if there are no style sheet adjustments being done from your main website theme?

Hi babylon,

The answer to the missing ask button can be found in this thread I raised a while ago:

Missing Ask Button

There have also been requests for the custom Stackideas forum layout to be included in future releases and the roadmap for EasyDiscuss is to bring closer integration with EasySocial and improve overall user experience.

I use the simplistic theme with category set to NO as it is the closest to the current Stackideas forum layout.

Hope this helps clarify one of your questions.

Sorry, should have explained, as in the other thread:

Settings - Layout - Toolbar - Search Bar Section:

Enable Search Bar = YES
Enable Ask Button = YES
Category Filter Toolbar = NO
Ask Button Colour = Pick a Colour you prefer

All selections in the toolbar section on the left are set to YES

It should end up looking like this:

Ref the Toolbar, some text has been changed as follows (in case you want to make a change):

EasyDiscuss text/button changes have been made in the Extensions - Language Manager - Override section of Site Administration. The changes affect the following lines in file \language\en-GB\en-GB.com_easydiscuss.ini:

1. Ask a Question Title above category selection box for new posts changed to:
Line 86 now = COM_EASYDISCUSS_TOOLBAR_NEW_DISCUSSION="Select a Category"
2. What's on your mind example title changed to:
Line 107 now = COM_EASYDISCUSS_POST_TITLE_EXAMPLE="Enter Title"
3. Ask a Question Breadcrumbs path changed to:
Line 740 now = COM_EASYDISCUSS_BREADCRUMBS_ASK="New Discussion"
4. Ask a Question Page Title in Tab changed to:
Line 806 now = COM_EASYDISCUSS_TITLE_ASK="New Discussion"
5. Initial Button Description changed to:
Line 1050 now = COM_EASYDISCUSS_OR_ASK_A_QUESTION="New Discussion"
The Ask a Question module Button text can be changed in a similar way (Language Manager Override Section), affecting the following lines in file \language\en-GB\en-GB.mod_ask.ini:
1. Ask a Question text in button changed to:
Line 9 now = MOD_ASK_POST_QUESTION="New Discussion"

Ref the Summary and Detail Post images, I would prefer to see the following changes in layout:

Summary Post

1. Type (Question), 'Posted in Category' (Sport) and Tags moved away from the content to keep it clean/visible, possibly by putting 'Posted in Sports' beside 'more than a month ago' and 'Question' beside the tags on the left (where the tags are now) because the different colour will stand out.

Detail Post

1. Who is viewing this page goes to the right hand side of the section block and the social icons go to the left of the same section block (as in one of the other themes.

2. The 'Question' type to go inside the main box, just above the content of the post (above 'How many Sports'

3. The 'Discussion is not assigned to a moderator yet and assign moderator to be removed (if a duplication of moderate button) or moved in beside that row of buttons (quote, print etc)

4. The wasted space above the post is now clear for the 'Add a Reply' and 'View Reply' buttons to come down closer to the top of the post.

5. 'Be the first to like this post' goes in beside 'Mark as Favourite'

6. There is now clear space for the tags to appear at the bottom of the post (above the box with 'first to like'.

7. It makes the vertical size of the post a lot smaller, more space efficient and allows a focus on the content without any distractions.

8. If you do it this way, there is no reason why the 'Reply, View, Votes, Likes' boxes from the summary post could not be placed in the initial detail post instead of the single box.

A few thoughts for Stackideas on how to make simplistic use less space but also use the smaller space more efficiently for the benefit of the member/visitor, who will see a better visual display.

I think it would work well responsively in smaller devices.

It is a personal preference of course, any thoughts babylon?

Only thing i did wish is that they would have seperated the tile and description of the ED.
Now its ON or OFF for headers.

The options work like this:

1. OFF = Title and Description are not shown
2.ON = You can show BOTH title and description OR title only OR description only. If you only want the title, do not place anything in the description box and the layout will adjust by moving the title down towards the toolbar. If you only want to have the description, do not place anything in the title box and the 2 'subscribe' buttons on the right of the forum layout will move down beside your description.

You can also turn the title and description OFF and use the module for title/description instead, placing it in your preferred template position.

In summary, the title and description are completely flexible and able to appear anywhere you wish, together or on their own.

Ref the profile dropdown not working, it is ok on my site, so Stackideas will need to look at it if it is not working properly for you.

Hope this helps.

Hi Babylon,

In the file path 'JOOMLA' means the name of your website (to avoid posting it in public), for example if my website was abc.com the path would be abc/media/foundry/2.1/scripts/responsive.js

It is how I arrive at the file on my site, hope this helps.

Ah, penny drops........it wasn't there because the file you added was the file you were missing, responsive.js and Adelene was only giving you the path for the place to install it.

Hello Babylon,

Sorry for not being clear. You were meant to add the file in that path. The file is missing which is causing your issue. This is actually bug which has been fixed in the beta Hope this clears things up

Thanks!
