I have talked a lot about how to do 2-3 column and how important it is to have that added in 4.0... and I am glad that you guys have listened. Now, I have another tip to bring to the table....

I haven't talked much about how to revamp the 1 column view. I was recently on TechCrunch.com and I noticed how well they had done the 1 column view. Giving 2 simple and clean tabs for Popular and Latest and making each take up little space and connecting them with a beautiful "Timeline"

I thought you should consider making a template inspired by that concept.
Also notice the module they have to the left of any given article, how you can click on any filter value and it changes dynamically. That would be a cool AIO module.

Hello Jannik Laursen,

Thanks for your suggestion
Can you provide some screenshot regarding this what you mentioned above? Please advise.

Sure here are a couple of screenshots. What I like is they use the screen real estate very well. There can be multiple articles in a window without having to scroll or change pages... and the line on the left which connects all the articles is a nice touch. I also love the simplicity of having tabs on the top to switch between different criteria.

In terms of the module, it also uses the space very well, as you can toggle between different tags.

Yes, it looks really nice but quite frankly, I am not really sure how would that module fit into your existing Joomla template It's going to be dependent on the "area" that is available for the module?

yeah, based on my noob coding skills I am guessing a height: auto; will automatically adjust the size, and then anything published in the module position underneath it will just be pushed down.

Hello Jannik,

Yeah, you could control it within the module itself but what about the wrapper itself that is done on the Joomla template? Imagine that you have your left module position but with that module you shown above, it utilizes quite a huge area for the module and positioning this on the left would mean that it breaks your template

ok, well then you could make a module with a fixed height/fixed number of articles shown (user defined in back end). then you could make it so that it is always expanded to the same size, no matter which thing you click on. You could have latest, most popular, most commented etc. as filters... and then forget about the tags idea :P

Hello Jannik,

Yep, that's correct but based on my experience, user would always come back to us requesting for support as the module breaks the site :P This is my experience building Joomla extensions for close to 10 years now

Well, I have the perfect solution. You release it without support and have people sign a terms and license agreement stating that if their site breaks they are noobs.
