Hi SI Team

I am wondering if there is a way to get the “Join Group” button on some groups to redirect on click?

Not logged in

For example when not logged in and if I go here:

https://www.finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more

And for eg navigate to one of the following two open Groups that are also effected by the Pay Plans Menu App:

FCPX Media Foundations 101.X
https://www.finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more

or

FCPX Browser Mastery 201.X
https://www.finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more/study-mf-101-x

And click on “Join Group” I am taken here:

https://www.finalbug.net/index.php/store

Which I guess kind of makes sense as I am not legged in and am asked to purchase access.

If on the other hand I am logged in.

Logged in

And have for eg not paid for access via a pay plans subscription.

to either:

FCPX Media Foundations 101.X
https://www.finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more

or

FCPX Browser Mastery 201.X
https://www.finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more/study-mf-101-x

I still:

a) See the “Join Group”
b) Can click on it and apparently join Group with out paying.
c) Can not access Group as I have the Pay Plans Menu Access App set up for ES Groups*

*Menu App is set to only allow access to group if subscription if payed.

It just does not seem very logical.
Do you understand what I mean?
At the very latest when logged in the “Join Group” button should take the user to the subscription page?

kindly advise

Paul
Hi Paul,

It is actually correct behavior, where it will ask for login first to check rather the user already have active subscription to access that specific menu/group.
At the very latest when logged in the “Join Group” button should take the user to the subscription page?

By right if the user have active subscription that consist that privilege to access that group it should not go to the subscription page.
Do you have any test user that have active subscription for accessing the group?

Hi Fadhli

Please try this for exampleone (password included above in the site details section)

Exampleone has a subscription for “MF101.X”
and no subscription for “BM 201.X"

Not logged in:

When he is not logged in he sees the “Join Group” buttons which I guess kind of makes sense.

IF he clicks on this button he is taken to the register/login dialogue.

When he is logged in:

He has direct access to the Group “MF101.X” thanks to the Pay Plans Menu Access App.

https://finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more/study-mf-101-x

He can also Navigate to the all Groups page…

https://finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more

…and see the “Leave Group” button.

a) He can click on it and “apparently” leave the Group but still navigate to it afterwards.

https://finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more/study-mf-101-x

Obviously thanks to the Pay Plans Menu Access App.

So he has on the one hand left but on the other hand is still in. This does not make sense to me.

The ES Group is an Open Group.

Exampleone has no subscription for “BM 201.X”

He has no access to the Group thanks to the Pay Plans Menu Access App.

Going here:

https://finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more/study-bm-201-x

Will take him here:

https://www.finalbug.net/index.php/store

Error
Either you do not have subscribed any plan or your subscription has been expired. Please subscribe a plan to access this link.

This makes sense as Exampleone has no subscription for “BM 201.X”

He can also Navigate to the all Groups page…

https://finalbug.net/index.php/groups-learn-post-production-socially-fcpx-and-more

…and see either the “Leave Group” button or the “Join Group” button.

a) He can click on the “Leave Group” button and “apparently” leave the Group and not navigate to it afterwards. Makes sense.

b) He can click on the “Join Group” button and “apparently” join the Group and not navigate to it afterwards. Makes no sense.

Kindly try out both of these scenarios.

.

Obviously in both cases thanks to the Pay Plans Menu Access App.

So he has on the one hand left but on the other hand is still in. This does not make sense to me.

The ES Group is an Open Group.

I think that this could give different signals to users and is unfortunate.

Maybe the simplest cleanest solution is to simply switch of the Join/leave button when logged in for all Groups associated with a Pay Plans Plan?

Mayne you have a better idea?

Hope this makes sense

thanks

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your detail description on this.
It is indeed some flaw in the joining/leaving workflow when associate easysocial's single group menu with menu-access app. Where basically this menu-access app only restrict in term of menu-access links not completely associate with easysocial groups
Maybe in the future we can create a specific app for easysocial group app.

Hi Fadhli

Can you move this to the Feature request section?
This not really a deal breaker but as I say it could confuse some people.
To be honest it had me really confused as well as an Admin when trying to figure out what type of user group to use in conjunction with Pay Plans

thanks
