Is someone working on my site? It's suddenly a big mess.

http://screencast.com/t/9tSucnanVqMg
I FIXED IT!!!!
The template call (or whatever the terms are for that) was deleted when I deleted the Fn CometChat code!!
Thank you for helping me see through my fog of fear and worry!!
Jannik, your suggestion about the cometchat code saved the day!
I heart you so much!!

Something has gone terribly awry. I wasn't changing anything at the time. I'm trying not to freak out.

Hmm, did you recently install some type of compression or speed up software? Or enable gzip compression? Or did you save a css file, that failed to upload fully?

Easy way to determine where the problem is, is to disable gzip compression, jch optimizer, template compression... and even change back to one of the default templates... until you have a normal look. Then you can gradually enable one thing at the time until you stumble on the one that breaks it...

also, it goes without saying, but clear your cache both in joomla and in your browser

Jannik, I realized that I ran an installation from CometChat that was to change my integration from JomSocial to EasySocial. I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I don't know what to do.

Thank you for helping.

I've uninstalled, disable, dropped tables, and deleted the cometchat folder, but nothing changed, so I don't think it is that.

Also, there is no compression and I'm using default templates.

I'm trying to stay calm. I know you guys know your stuff. I know this must be fixable. Forgive me. My stomach is in knots. lol I'm so worried I've lost all of that hard work. I really don't know why it would suddenly do this.

Hehe, don't worry. Also, note, I am not support staff, I am just a subscriber who has experienced similar challenges, and knows what you are going through.. but if I can't pinpoint the problem, I am sure that support staff actually can.

The good thing is the most important part is not lost, which is your database. Everything around it can be rebuilt.

Did you try changing to a different template and see if the components look normal?

I'm so embarrassed. Okay, now to address the other issues that are real, and not because of my Fng up.

haha, don't be embarrassed, we have all been there.

Now, what did you learn? Start backing everything up daily, and do a manual backup before making a big tweak. Akeeba Backup is a great option, otherwise talk to your host about backups

Hi guys,

Wow, thank you Jannik for the assistance.

Troy, we're so glad that you didn't lose all of your hard work. I concur what Jannik said; start backup everything daily. If this is a hassle (I know it is! LOL), I'd highly suggest for you to back up your site before you install anything and/or if you try to play around with the configuration. Even the Stack Ideas dev team fumbled and screwed up their test sites. It would be a nightmare if it happens on a real site!

Seeing that this thread's inquiry has been resolved (thanks again Jannik! ), I'll mark it as solved and close it. Should you guys have any other inquiries, please do not hesitate to start a new thread again.

Thank you and have an awesome day!

Ahmad, I have Akeeba backing up my site. This backs up my EasySocial, too, I presumed?
