1) If I buy and install your EasySocial, can I show the icons like Notifications, Messages, friend requests, etc.. in all Joomla pages?

2) If I can do the above, do I then have to include Boostrap 3 and your easysocial css on all pages?

3) How can the above be achieved? Is it like placing the links to a module position?
hey neel,
yes it's absolutely doable to load the notifications / messages and friend requests outside of easysocial on other joomla pages.
this is done by using one of the modules that's shipped with easysocial by default. so you just need to enable it on the template position you want and you're good to go. also these modules automatically load all the styles and scripts they need to function properly so you don't have to add any additional styles/scripts on your own to make it work.

hope that helps and have a nice day

Thanks heaps for your quick response Alex. ES module for this sounds good and simple.

When you say the module loads all the styles and scripts automatically, does it mean the BS3 will also be included on all Joomla pages (or) only the required custom css is included and not the full BS3? I am asking this because, my template is not based on Bootsrap and when BS is included in other Joomla pages, there will be css conflicts that I also need to resolve. Thats why I am trying to understand if I include your module for these notifications in other joomla pages, is there a possibility that the styles or script may have some conflicts with my templates.

hey neel,
we don't call a particular bootstrap js or css file - for example the one already integrated in joomla - at all. having that said at the same time we do use bootstrap but all the styles are packed within our own css/js implementation (and these are also loaded on other pages when you use the module). in general I've seen easysocial in use with lots of different template providers and they all work pretty fine but of course there's always a possibilty with conflicts, to say anything else than this by the variety of templates / extensions around would be illusively and dishonest.

Thanks again Alex. Couple more questions:

1) I understand now that the BS is already included in your packed js/css that comes with Easysocial. But lets say, if boostrap 3 was already included in template, does it mean that BS css will be loaded twice? 1 from Joomla template and another that is included in your packed css? If that happens, do we then need to remove the BS that was included with the template (or) is there an option in easysocial to not include bs since it is already called in header?

2) Lastly, would you be able to give me an approximate size on how big is your packed & minified css and js (including the BS) that comes in your ES packs?

Sorry if I am being a pain... I am trying to get a better understanding before I purchase your amazing extension.

hey neel,
there's currently no option to disable bootstrap css or js from within our extension as we're not loading them individually. however our scripts are working nicely side-by-side with other bs calls, for example protostar (the basic j3 template) is using bs2 while most other providers already ship bs3 - and easysocial worked on all of them - even on a custom one with zurb's foundation.

about filesizes - well, depends on packaging etc. and the mood of the testing tool but the main css is around 90kb and the main js file loads at 220kb (gzip) - pure package around 800kb

hope that helps and have a nice day

That did help heaps.. Thanks heaps Alex. You have answered all of my questions for now and also very promptly. Most importantly, your answers have given me a better understanding on your extension (most importantly the css and js part). I am looking forward in purchasing it soon.

Thanks again Alex. You have a good day too!
