I am sorry for the late reply for this. You can use module EasyDiscuss - Recent Discussions by:
1. Click Extensions->Modules->Add New Modules->EasyDiscuss - Recent Discussions : http://screencast.com/t/NDuu5kfnb
2. Module tab-> Select an Option->Selected Categories : http://screencast.com/t/9Y6BHoyQJr
3. Filter by Category tab->Discussion Category http://screencast.com/t/js1A4VRHs

This will only allow me to select 1 category. I would like to select more than one category. Is that possible?
