Is there a way to invite people to join a group that are not necessarily a friend, a member or no account yet? Like via email?

Can this be done? There is already a function related to this (the user invite a friend view), why can't it be made available for group also? Or maybe the question is, why can I only invite a friend only or a member only (only with a website account) to join a group?
