Is it possible to invite people to join groups who are not currently ES users?
If not, this would be a great way to grow membership. Thoughts?
Yes this is a good idea.

You should add it to the Voice Section so we can vote for it...

Hey Peter,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here.

You can invite outside friend `invite friends` from the Easysocial toolbar dropdown menu.

Hope this help.

By the way, thanks for sharing Aikigi

The "Invite Friends" in the tool bar is useful to join the website in general (it would be nice to have a more obvious way to invite like a Button) but what I am trying to accomplish is to promote individual Groups. So in the current scenario, a member must invite a person to join the community. Once/If that person joins they then need to be invited to join the group (or find it themselves). This requires a lot of work for the member trying to grow their group.

One solution may be having the ability for a group to have "public" access in Joomla (As all of my content is for registered users) that way a link of the group can be sent to someone and then they can see the groups description, then decide to join the overall community. Make any sense?

Hey Peter,

Unfortunately right now the only possible ways to invite users is what Arlex mentioned above and there is no way to funnel a user to join the group once they are invited.

Perhaps what could be done in the future is for us to add a new feature in the groups to allow invitations for non members. In the invitation link, it contains some "special" data that automatically join them into a specific group. It's best that you add your ideas at http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial so that we can start pulling in features for the next major release of EasySocial

OK, thanks. Any word on the current "invite friends" functionality? Neither processing them immediately or with a cronjob works as per my other forum question.

Hey Peter,

The current invite friends functionality simply sends them a link to register on your site and it doesn't perform anything else except for rewarding the user that invited their friends with points

Hi Peter,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply.

Perhaps you can provide us with your Joomla backend and FTP access so we can check why the email did not get send out when you trying to send the invitation?

Hey Peter,

I am really sorry that delay of this reply,

I've tried to access in your Joomla backend but i hitting this :
Warning
Unable to connect to LDAP server

Also can you provide us with your Cpanel access as well? If I'm not wrong you haven't setup the cronjob in your server right?

Looking forward of your response.

Guys, over the last week I have given 3 different people my cpanel, ftp and joomla access. There has to be a way to coordinate that with people who do support there. That plus screenshots of my front and backend emailed to me in a public forum concern me.

It looks like different people work on different messages at different times and dont share notes.

To answer the specific question for this last response, Initially ES made my cronjob, it was wrong, pointed out by Siteground, then it stopped working so I deleted it..currently no email invitations work

Hey Peter,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. You should update your site details once at http://stackideas.com/dashboard/site or you can click the link as shown here, http://screencast.com/t/gPXoYvmD

By entering your details here, you don't have to provide the access each time you create a new post on our forums. We deal with over hundred of different emails / forum posts each day and it would be close to impossible to remember or recall your site details.

Can you please update your details and once that is done, let me know and I will check on your issues The login access which you provided at http://stackideas.com/forums/invite-friends-from-outside-es-users#reply-223295 isn't working.

Hi Peter,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it weekends for all of us here.

I've tried to invite a friend from your site and it seems like it returning me this error after I submitting the invite, http://screencast.com/t/Wotsk2Aiw3 . This error is actually coming from the joomla itself where your email configuration is not being configured properly. Can you please check mail settings in Joomla Global Configuration panel. Try also with SMTP settings as not all server allow using mail() function by scripts.

I'm not getting that error in your screenshot. Also, as far as my joomla email configuration..I dont know what I'm looking for..I havent changed any of those settings in 6 months and everything has been working fine (even when I initially installed ES) the problems started when ES made a cronjob for me..

Hey Peter,

Hm, the problem seems to be related to your mail server not allowing the script to use a different sender email to send out emails. Can you try this again and let me know if this is working for you now? I just tested this and it seems to be working fine.

What I did was edited the file /administrator/components/com_easysocial/tables/friendinvite.php and at line 132 and 133 respectively, I have commented out the codes below:

$template->setSender($sender->getName(), $sender->email);
$template->setReplyTo($sender->email);

OK, update. It looks like ES will not send an invitation to an email address that is already a member?
The immediate processing seems to be working. I assume that will be ok for a little while as I am still in Beta/Dev but once activity increases I think that will pose a problem? If so, thoughts on how to address the cronjob issue?

Hi Peter,

. It looks like ES will not send an invitation to an email address that is already a member?

EasySocial will not send the invitation again if you've already invited someone before

The immediate processing seems to be working. I assume that will be ok for a little while as I am still in Beta/Dev but once activity increases I think that will pose a problem? If so, thoughts on how to address the cronjob issue?

The same fix will be added into next release of EasySocial and it shouldn't cause any problem when there are a lot of invitations as all the invitation emails will be send out by batch basis

Hope this help and have a nice day!
Sam

Hey Peter,

You can run the following SQL query below to clear off all existing invites,

truncate table jos_social_friends_invitations;

You need to replace jos_ with your database table prefix in Joomla
