I've got my site on lock down mode and would really like only existing members to be able to invite other to join. To make the invites work at the moment, the allow registration during lock down has to be enabled, but this doesn't stop random people from registering.

Jomsocial used to do this quite well, as an admin i still approved each new member, but I knew they could only have registered having had an invite for an existing user.
@Matt, have you found a solution or this problem? I too am looking for something similar.

No, I just delete any randoms signing up each week and ask people to let me know when they've invited someone.

There is an application you can install Matt.

It's called Invitation Code and I believe it might achieve part of what you want. The downside is you have to share the code with your users. They don't get their own unique code to use (which is what I want).
