You can use the invite option under the dropdown as you can see here, http://take.ms/PtETy . If it is not appearing for you, there are several possibilities:

1. Friends are disabled on the site (Invite only works when friends are enabled)

2. You are not an event admin and the option, http://take.ms/ZqEko is disabled.

Our problem is with Invitation-only groups, not events.
Till ES 2.0, users had an option to invite users with the ellipsis, triple dot, top right.
This option is gone, see attchment

Ah I see. Since friends has been disabled, this feature wouldn't work since there is no way to invite friends eh?

Sounds simple, but we had friends disabled in the past and people stille had a way to invite other users.

Hm, not sure how this feature worked in the previous version because the invitation tool only invite friends

Okay.. I'm not really happy right now.
We didn't use friends.. we want all of them to be friends!

Our members page now shows a 'Add as friend' option.. that's not how it's supposed to be.

I am sorry for the confusion in earlier, based on what i checked in your site, you already enabled this setting Allow Inviting Non Friends from the group global configuration setting, you should able to add non-friend from your invite-group page.

Perhaps you can share with us which user you login and which user member name you trying to search? So we can better havea
check on your site, and provide us those user login details.

Because i did a test on this Ferney Group, it seems I can able to invite non-friend into this group, you can check my video here : http://take.ms/xKS5a

I've added user 'test' into this Ferney Group, so you can login and see it for yourself.
There is just no option to add anyone, no friends and no non-friends.

I've tried to replicate this issue it seems there is a bug where, group member should be able to invite user even though Enable Friends setting was disable as we got the setting Allow Inviting Non Friends at the first place.
I've logged this issue in our issue tracker and our developers will take an action for this.
For the fix, can you edit the file:
.../administrator/components/com_easysocial/includes/group/group.php
and remove/delete the code below(LINE 1678-1681):

		// Friends needs to be enabled

		if (!$this->config->get('friends.enabled')) {

			return false;

		}

You're suggested to backup the file that you want to edit beforehand for precaution
