Are there any plans on integrating the update process with the Joomla update (ie to pass on the info to the update manager that there is an update for the extension)?
Hello CK,

We don't have any intentions of doing so yet because our update process is a little different than Joomla

Mark,

Having given it some thought, I believe it would be worth the time and effort.

  1. It will integrate with extensions such as Akeeba Backup (an complete site/extension backup can be taken upon update).
  2. For the reason listed above, i.e. t will make the site easier to manage (ES isn't the only extension used on my site, so having a single place to manage my updates will make my life a lot easier).

ps there is an interesting article posted on the Joomla Magazine site.

Thanks in advance,
Chaim

Hello Chaim,

To be honest, there's a lot of limitation in "Joomla Updates". We cannot break down the "installation process" to multiple steps and I believe utilizing Joomla's update process will only result into more issues due to the max_execution_time on php.

Hi Mark,

Not being a developer, i cannot comment on the limitations of the Joomla update system, I still do think that it isn't a wise decision to abandon it altogether as there are certain advantages that are lost (integration with backup systems, receive notifications upon logging in that an update is available,, integration with 3pd monitoring service such as watchful.li).

I do understand that this is the route that you choose, is it possible to add a module for the amin that notifies the user that there is an update (similar to the joomla update notifier)?

Thanks in advance,
Chaim

Mark, why not at least utilize the Joomla Update Notifications?

Currently to know there is an update in ES we either have to be in ES directly or follow the Update site daily. Both of which are a pain when we as website creators often have multiple websites to manage. Several extensions utilize the Joomla Update Notifications but aren't updateable by it. Hopefully this makes sense as I agree that there should be some integration there.

Thanks,
James

Hi,

We currently don't have any plans regarding this yet as we are prioritising other tasks for EasySocial and EasyBlog currently.

I agree for the global notification, agreement with Mark for the process. You should create a Voice entry, this would make sense to add a general notice
