Yes, that is only possible to manage the event from the group if that is group owner and group admin.

Also if you create an event in private group, this event will follow this group type as private event.

In other word, if the event created from the group, it will follow the group type e.g. public or private, unless you create standalone event, so you can able to select this event under public or private.
