I am trying to install the EasySocial v1.1 RC 1 via the method Mark suggests and have never done this successfully. Mark has installed it for me the past 2 beta builds.

I am trying to learn how to do this, and if anyone has the instructions it would be appreciated.

I have downloaded the EasySocial V1.1 RC 1 and have it in a folder.

What are the next steps? Any assistance appreciated.

UPDATED: Thanks to Alex Heil and to Martin for giving me some instructions and suggestions below, I finally learned how to Install from a Directory and I created a Visual STEP by STEP GUIDE Below. You can follow the steps to install EasySocial or any other StackIdeas Component from a Directory using this tutorial.
hey randall,
it's actually pretty straight forward:
first install (upload) the package at your extensions manager as you would do with every other extension as well (this can take some time but when using chrome you can see at least at the bottom left the progress of the upload so you know it's in progress ^^).
then start and follow the install process till step 3 (installation method). there select the second option (install from directory) and click on the dropdown. in the opening dropdown list click on the 1.1 package and continue - the rest of the installation works the same as it would on the "install via network" one - that's it.

hope that helps

Alex,

I followed your steps.

1. Upload the com_easysocial_1.1_full_pro as I would any other extension. - did this
2. If I follow these steps, I can't seem to find the dropdown list to select the package.

This seems so simple but I just don't get it. I'll have to wait until I see the proper install that people usually get to install it.

Thanks Alex.

Thanks Alex,

I tried to install via directory as per the instructions based on the discussion you mentioned above, and I get only so far and get an error message, and it stops.

Screencast: http://screencast.com/t/bvNpbFRRedS

I tried again and the same thing: I still get the error message.

Initializing Database ...

Extracting component files - Success
Installation archive extracted successfully.
Initializing Database Failed
Sorry, there was some errors when trying to extract the queries.zip file. Please contact our support team.

I will have to wait for Mark, as he had to install it for me the last two times because of the same error message.

Ok,

I slowly stepped through everything and found out where I was making the mistake. After successfully installing EasySocial v1.1 RC1 from Install from Directory, I decided to create a STEP by STEP TUTORIAL to help others avoid the same mistake I was making.

THANK YOU: A BIG Thank you to Alex and Martin or helping me through this so I could Install the RC of EasySocial V1.1.

Here are the STEPS to HELP others to Install EasySocial from a Directory:

NOTE: Requirements
Please take note of the minimum requirements for this EasySocial v1.1 RC 1 release:

upload_max_filesize 16MB
post_max_size 16MB
Installation
The beta package is a full package and you will need to use the "Installation from directory" method as you can see here, http://screencast.com/t/ldcjJwdVLidW

INSTALLATION FROM DIRECTORY - This example shows EasySocial v1.1 RC 1

Downloaded the Full-Package from the Issues Beta Download location. Download here: http://stackideas.com/issues/stats

UnZIP the Download Full-Package to your desktop or a folder on your computer. UNZIP the Full-Package that you downloaded.

- You now have the com_easysocial_1.1.0_full_pro in a folder. In this folder you will see the setup folder.

Open the Setup folder and you will see the Packages folder and some other files.

Open the Packages folder.

You will see the com_easysocial_1.1.0_component_pro file in the folder. This is the setup file that you will upload to your Server for your website using ftp upload.

THIS IS THE DIRECTORY PATH: /home/../administrator/components/com_easysocial/setup/packages

Once you have uploaded the com_easysocial_1.1.0_component_pro file into the Packages folder on your server, you will see the file in the Packages directory.

Now it is time to do the Upload from Directory portion of the installation. Go to your Site Administrator.

SITE ADMINISTRATOR STEPS TO INSTALL FROM DIRECTORY

Go to StackIdeas.com and login to your Dashboard, and then download the EasySocial Launcher file to your Desktop. Link to your Dashboard: http://stackideas.com/dashboard

The file name will look something like this: com_easysocial_launcher_advanced_1.0.10_joomla3.0

In your Site Administrator, go to Extension > Extension Manager and choose the Upload Package File Choose file button.

Select the file: com_easysocial_launcher_advanced_1.0.10_joomla3.0 and Click Open.

Click Upload to upload the EasySocial Launcher.

You will proceed with the installation just like you would with Installing EasySocial as usual.

Click the Green button to Install the EasySocial Launcher, and go to STEP 1, Step 2, so you get to STEP 3.

Click Upload to upload the EasySocial Launcher.
Click Next Step button on the Technical Requirements page. Click Next Step button Directory Permissions page.

In STEP 3 - You Will CHOOSE the Installation via Directory method

Select the file "com_easysocial_1.1.0_component_pro.zip" from the drop-down menu. Click Next Step.

Check to make sure the files installed properly, then Click Next Step.

Check to make sure everything installed properly, then Click Next Step.

If you have followed these STEPS ABOVE and everything proceeds properly with the Installation from Directory method, you will have installed EasySocial and you will see the Successful completion at the end of the STEP 5.

To check to see that the latest version of EasySocial is installed you can do this by opening the EasySocial Component Dashboard and looking in the TOP LEFT corner. You should see the version of EasySocial installed.
