Hi,
I noticed that when sharing forum posts via Facebook, Google+ or LinkedIn, the post contains a photo that is not correct (eg. is an advertisement). In fact, it should not contain any illustrations. It does not matter whether you share a post by easyDiscuss buttons or a third party script.

Can I turn off showing images in shared posts or define a specific image that should appear in them?

Hey Pat,

Ah, I am really sorry, I replied to the wrong thread When you share a post url from EasyDiscuss, the respective social sites would try to scrape the page and get any image it can find. Could you provide me with an example of the URL so that I can take a look at the page?

I understood that some of the problems were related to incomplete activation of the SSL certificate. Currently, only LinkedIn is affected. I noticed that in the single post view easyDiscuss creates such a code:

<meta content="https://technologieav.pl/components/com_easydiscuss/themes/wireframe/images/placeholder-facebook.png" property="og:image">

This is ok. Facebook recognizes it, the only thing I have to do is replace the placeholder-facebook.png file with my own. Google+ also downloads a good photo. Unfortunately, LinkedIn downloads other images from the site.
Example: technologieav.pl/forum/xv

Hey Pat,

Based on what i know, once Linkedin cache your discussion image on their server, you have to wait for 7 days so Linkedin server will automatically crawl into your site to retrieve the image again, mean if Linkedin retrieve wrong image at the first time, it will always show this image when you share your discussion into Linkedin.

Yes, that meta og:image tag is allow those social network like Facebook, Google, Twitter, Linkedin to know which image they suppose to get to display on the share item.

You can read Linkedin help page here did mentioned what is the correct format opengraph should use on the page.
https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/46687/making-your-website-shareable-on-linkedin?lang=en

By the way, I was tried to access your site, it seems like i getting this warning, you can check my attached screenshot below.

Hi, Arlex!

As always, thank you for your answer. Maybe this is LinkedIn cache problem. I will check it in a few days.

I do not have MetaMen, but it would be great if this extension would also directly support LinkedIn and other popular social media from the backend.

By the way, my site was in offline mode.

Hey Pat,

Metaman supports opengraph for Facebook which would also work with LinkedIn You can try out Metaman at http://metaman.stackideas.com/

It looks like the demo version doesn't work. I remember that the interface was visible after logging in. Now he is gone.
Is it true that MetaMan only works in the frontend?

Hey Pat,

I have fixed the demo site, as it looks like someone disabled it in the settings. Yep, it only works on the front end and you should use it on the front end as it would be easier to manage them

This is an interesting tool, but I have questions.

  1. Does MetaMan extract some of the meta data from Joomla, e.g. "title", "description", "keywords"? Or maybe after installing the extension, this data is empty and I have to enter it manually in MetaMan?
  2. Can I set default values in selected fields?
  3. Can MetaMan be used for any subpage (e.g. K2 article, list of categories, EasyDiscuss forum/index/tags, contact form and so on)?
  4. Where are the images stored? Can I insert image directly from the server?

Hey Pat,

Thanks for getting back to me on this. No worries, I will try to answer all of your questions below:

Does MetaMan extract some of the meta data from Joomla, e.g. "title", "description", "keywords"? Or maybe after installing the extension, this data is empty and I have to enter it manually in MetaMan?

It uses the data that is already set on the page. If nothing has been set before in Metaman, it doesn't modify anything. Only upon saving the data, they would then be saved in Metaman.

Can I set default values in selected fields?

Unfortunately you can't set default values currently.

Can MetaMan be used for any subpage (e.g. K2 article, list of categories, EasyDiscuss forum/index/tags, contact form and so on)?

Yes, as long as the page has a unique URL, MetaMan would be able to modify these metadata.

Where are the images stored? Can I insert image directly from the server?

For opengraph and twitter images, you need to upload via Metaman.
