Probably you already thought about this but in case you did not I wanted to give you a tip. I just heard about this due to a more or less "friend" of mine. RSJoomla got a unique key in each download made by their members. On this way they recognize which member provides the software in warez sites...

Another idea might be having to enter the domain on your site to make the software work there. I love the no limit for installations policy and to be honest I would never like to give that possibility. But perhaps this would at least have users to list all domains they use your software on and so you see if it goes up by hundreds, something must be wrong there.

Thanks for your insights on this Sabih, yeah if things go worst, we might consider that but we are currently tracking out of good faith.

This is the thing about open source, people always think that paying a yearly subscription fee is expensive and they never really thought about the amount of hours, work, devotion spent on the product to make everyone's life easier.

Of course, there are ups and downs in a software development cycle but all in all, we all learn something new everyday from our customers and I believe our customers do gain a lot in terms of obtaining the software.

Downloading warez files are causing great harm to open source development and it will eventually mess up with the ecosystem. Not only it affects extension, template developers, it will eventually harm Joomla / Wordpress when there is no longer an incentive to build anything around it.
