I am sorry for the delay of this reply. I have tried to upload an image via media manager and it seems to be working fine. I am not really sure how to reproduce this issue. Perhaps the particular image that you are trying to upload is too large? Could you attach the image here so that I can try this on your site?

Thanks for updating, glad that your issues are resolved now. I am not really sure what you meant by modifying the gallery but I am guessing that you are referring to the gallery that is embedded in the blog post? You can modify the theme file /components/com_easyblog/themes/default/blog.gallery.php
