Hello SI Support,

i have normal events and page events. Registered users can RSVP at normal events but can't RSVP at page events.

What can i do to let normal users RSVP to page events (users are no member or follower of this page)?

Thank you and best regards
Hi Macjoomla,

Unfortunately only page followers can RSVP to page events, meaning those normal users have to follow the page first in order to RSVP to those page's events.

Hello Raymond, i come back to this thread, because i think this behavior is not intuitive. Nobody understands, why, if you just want to attend one public event of a page, you have to become a follower first. We really could use it better if everybody could just attend. Overall it is not explainable to say, you have to be a follower before. I think follower and attendance are completely different shoes. So could you pleas think about again.

Thank you and best regards, Macjoomla

There are many other checks which makes this impossible right now. This includes privacy and other related items which requires the user to be a follower of the page.

Hello Mark, thank you for your answer. I understand, that you can't switch it to work in a second. But you you really should overthink the logic behind. Public does mean public for anybody and public does not mean, that you have follow a page to attend an event of the page. And current behavior is not obviously and one is asking, why it is not possible to attend…

May be for all users of this logic to avoid confusion and rewriting all checks it would be best to add a new Kind of event for Groups and Pages like "public for all users even if no follower" or something like that. So there would be following kind of events:

  • really public
  • public for followers
  • privat
  • invitation

So please consider this for next releases, what do you think about?

Thank you for listening and best regards, Macjoomla

Hey Macjoomla,

I do not see anywhere stating that events from clusters are public. If you look at my attachments, events from groups/pages have their own label. What users should know when they see 'page event' or 'group event' is that the event is created for users part of the page/group.

When you create events in groups/pages, you also cannot select the type of event.

You should create normal events if you want to create events that do not require users to join the group/page.

Nevertheless, adding a new type of event is near impossible currently due to numerous checks from various places as Mark mentioned.

You are right, it does not say, that events of a page are public, but it does not say neither, that they are only attendable by followers.

When you create events in groups/pages, you also cannot select the type of event.
Oh, You are right and for the frontend i was wrong, but in workflow preferences od pages events you have a selection for type of event, but this seems not to work for page in frontend at all…

Nevertheless, adding a new type of event is near impossible currently due to numerous checks from various places as Mark mentioned.
Ok, thank you for your answer, but i am still thinking, this would be a big improvement

Best regards

Hey Macjoomla.,
but it does not say neither, that they are only attendable by followers.
Perhaps we can improve the description tooltip for page/group event labels(attached) to something like, only group members/page followers can join and participate in this event.
in workflow preferences od pages events you have a selection for type of event, but this seems not to work for page in frontend at all
Not really sure what you mean by not working. There is only 1 type of event workflow(no page event or group event type).

If you are creating events under a group or page, the 'event type' field will not show. This is because its type will be inherited from the group/page.
but i am still thinking, this would be a big improvement
Feel free to post your idea into EasySocial's feature requests category.

I also tried to use the pages & groups event functionality but the current model make the events listing totally confusing.
Members want to see events and book for them. They don't want to first "like" a page and most don't want to follow the page.
And even if they did, there is no indicator that they need to do that first in order to be able to book.
All they see is that there is no booking button.

Also, not being able to set the event type for a page or group event means it is public.....when many page/group events actually need to be private or by invitation only. Pages and groups need the same event options as normal events, they should NOT be based on the page/group global setting as each event could be different.

So I 100% second MacJoomla's request.

IMHO, it makes sense to cluster events under a page/group, but the event needs the same functionality as normal events.
i.e. a photography club can have a page and events, some of which are public and some private.
Anyone should be able to see and book for their events without going to the page first.

Please rethink the way page and group events work, based on how users would actually use the site.

Hello StackIdeas Support,

same request as Macjoomla and Marc Bills. At this point, we can't use page or group events, because it is to complicated and not intuitive for users how to attend
