How to prevent an override of custom images during update?

I changed the default_facebook.png to reflect the blog a little bit better. But it seems that during the last update, this file was reset to the original file again.

How can I prevent that? Or is there a way I can modify a setting to use a different image file instead of the default_facebook.png?

I am sorry but unfortunately there's no setting to prevent this.

So this should become a feature request. Make a setting page that allows to pick custom icons with custom names that survive an upgrade.
