Hi folks,
We've been using Mailchimp to communicate with users and visitors of our site but now wish to use EB. In other words, we want to register (not Joomla users) all our MC subscribers as subscribers to our EB blog.

How do we proceed?
Cheers,
G
Hey Gilles,

I am sorry that delay of this reply,
Can you export all of your subscribers from mailchimp and send the file in my email address `arlex.wong@stackideas.com`, so I will help you import in your Easyblog subscription list.

Thanks Arlex, we're not quite ready to do this yet. When we are, we'll need it done asap and waiting 24 hours may not be the best.
Could you provide the instructions to do this or build a quick routine into .20 release?

hey Gilles,

You're welcome, it seems like we missed up create a menu for this "import subscriber layout" from backend Easyblog setting, you can take a look of my screenshot below.

If you can provide us how the .csv content format look like export from mailchimp, so we can test it properly in our locally.

By right when you upload the .csv file through backend import subscriber layout, it should automatically import in your Easyblog subscription list.

Thanks Arlex,
I'm sending you the csv from MC at your email address (please use for reference only, do not import them into our site).
Please confirm that you received it.
By the way, is the CSV layout that EB is expecting as it currently stands documented anywhere? If so, we could then format any CSV for import from various sources.

Hey Gilles,

I am sorry that delay of this reply,

I already received your .csv file from my mailbox. It seems like this feature we missed up put in the current version, by the way I already added back this feature in next release version and update this documentation.

However, I already take a look of your .csv format, it seems like inside only got 2 fields without username, may I know this .csv format is it export from mailchimp?

Thanks.
Yes, the export is straight from MC. MC lists can have any number of fields; it is customizable. For our list, we only request the user's email. That's why only two fields are exported.
If the import fields and orders are documented in EB's documentation for the import tool, EB admins could prepare the file accordingly.
When will I be able to use the tool? when is the next version with the working feature released?

Currently our migrator only supports the following format,

name, emailaddress

If your source doesn't have the name, there's nothing we can do about this because without a name, it will eventually break your notifications.

No worries than. Armed with this info I'll make the name the same as the email address prior to importing.
Will this cause any issues with EB?

If you do it this way, then when notifications are being sent, the system would address them as their email instead. If that is fine with you, I guess it should be okay.

Thanks Mark,
Yes I understand that to be true. It's just that in our case, to simplify (and entice) users to register to the site via MailChimp, we were only requiring email addresses.
Not much we can do about it. It'll be fine in this case.

Mark,
Can you point me to documentation regarding the import feature please? I searched and can not find it.
I used the link to the documentation in the backend's migration tool page but no luck.
I need some documentation as it is unclear as to which blog the subscribers would be added to, etc.

Also, I updated to .20 but the backend still states it's in development mode following your bug fixes.

Please advise on both issues.Thanks.

All imported subscribers are automatically subscribed to the site wide blog. As for the development message, as mentioned in my other posts, you need to switch the mode back to "Static" under Settings > System. I have done this for you and the message is gone now.

Thanks Mark.
Much appreciated. I thought the dev message was supposed to automatically disappear after the .20 upg. Thanks for turning it off.
