Once I log in to my site, I always check the box 'remember me'.

It appears that I need to log in again few time a day but I don't know when I am 'log out' by the system.

Can you explain me the rules: timeout ? other ?

Thanks
Henri
Hey Henri,

The time to live for a session is dependent on the global configuration section on your Joomla site as you can see from my screen shot here, http://take.ms/P7cfH

Hi Mark

Again, thank for your availability even on a week-end!

Ok, I see the setting which 15 (minutes?) when your screenshot display 60.
I will definitively increase my value to 60.

But I still let the 'cache timeout' to 15?

What is your reco for this time?
What are the criteria to change this value?
If I, let's say, move to 600, what are the avantages and drawbacks?

Thanks
Henri

Hey Henri,

On my local development instance, I set this to a very high value "9999" because I do not want to keep logging into the system

On a live site, I would suggest keeping between 120 - 360 minutes.

I just read some forum about this topic and a value of 60 seems quite standard.

Let's start with this and I will see if my users are more satisfied.

Thanks Mark

Ok, I will increase the value to 360.

But I feel more comfortable if I know "what is the price to pay" to such an increase?
Is there an impact in term of performance ?

Ok, I will increase the value to 180.
Log out after 3h of no activiy seems acceptable.

But I feel more comfortable if I know "what is the price to pay" to such an increase?

Hm, it's not really performance but rather more of user's security. Think of this as the behavior of your screen saver and login screen on your desktop. If you leave your desktop idle for long, and some of your family members just decide to login to your computer and do something funky without your consent
