I noticed that all Joomla Users appear as "Bloggers". I only want specific users to be bloggers and submit content. Can you provide me with step-by-step instructions on how to limit who can be a blogger?

I need to do this as I noticed on my test site that anyone could register on the Joomla site and then become a blogger and make submissions. I need to restrict access to this feature to specific Joomla users.

Thanks
Arthur
Hello Arthur,

So sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The image from Nik is from the Joomla 3.2 backend. And yes for Joomla 2,5 you will need to select the groups you want. Groups that aren't selected are not saved Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Hello Arthur,

You can limit who can be a blogger by using ACL setting. It can be found in Backend>Easyblog>ACL. In there, you can set which usergroup has permission to write entry, publish entry, post comment and etc. Hope this helps.

Hi Nick

Thanks for the quick reply. Just one question. Do the "Categories" in EasyBlog have to match the Joomla Categories? For example:

1. I only want the Authors and Publishers to edit the content in the EasyBlog Categories
2. I want to restrict them from the doing anything in the general Joomla categories

I'm creating Joomla groups called "Blog Authors" and "Blog Publishers". However, I'm restricting their access rights to the general Joomla website categories. However, I want them to be able to create content in any of the EasyBlog categories.

As for indivdual users, do I need to do anything in the EasyBlog ACL to restrict them from creating or editing content in EasyBlog. I want general Joomla users to only be able to view content.

Thanks
Arthur

Hello Arthur,

Categories in Easyblog doesn't have to match with Joomla Categories. Easyblog only control the categories from easyblog. You can go to backend>Easyblog>Categories under Category Access, you can define which user group can edit/view category: http://screencast.com/t/ldf1ETzxs7d . As for your case, you can include Blog Authors and Blog Publishers in During blog creation / edit section. As for the individual users, you can restrict them by going to Easyblog ACL and turn off the Write entry and Publish entry option so they will not able to write or publish anything in your Easyblog. Hope this helps.

Hi Nick

The Category Access area on my EasyBlog looks a bit different than the one you show in your graphic. Take a look at my attachment and you will see that I don't have the "x" after a group name to delete it or remove the restrictions. Therefore, how do I remove or deny access to the groups? Do I highlight only the groups that I want to have access?

Hi Nick

I think that I figured this out. I simply highlighted everything from "Author" down to "Superuser" and tested it (see attachment). That seemed to have worked. I did this for each category as well. Also, as a precaution, I went into the EasyBlog ACL and changed most of the settings for the "Registered" user group. This way, if someone creates a Joomla login from the Blog page login form, they can't do anything in the blog except read the content., post comments, and subscribe to a particular blog category. All the other groups below "Registered" maintain their normal rights.

Please let me know if there is anything else that I need to do to create a secure environment.

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

Hello Arthur,

So sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Did you check out the ACL settings as well? You can control the write and publish rights based on user groups. You can check this out in backend -> EasyBlog -> ACL Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Yes. I changed the settings for all "Registered" users specifically.

Thanks Adelene & Nick for your help on this issue. You all are great!

Hi guys and gals,

Is it possible to allow Registered group users to write their EasyBlog blog entries but disallow them to edit their entries?

So far I went to EasyBlog's ACL and found plenty of EasyBlog actions that can be allowed/disallowed to a user group but "Edit entry" is not among them. Is this doable?

If I allow Registered group users the "Write Entry" action but disallow them the publish entry, will that mean that they won't be able to edit their own entries?

Regards,

Alex

Hello Alex,

I am very sorry but this setting is not available in the current system.
Actually, every user can edit their own post but if you insist to deny them from able to edit their own post, you can done some tweaking to the code. You can download this attached file and replace it with existing file in your site. Please give it a try.

This customization is only for your site and this file is a Easyblog core file in which will be overriden if you update Easyblog. Please backup this file and other modified files before you update the site. You're responsible to implement this customization back.

If you have anymore question, please don't hesitate to ask us.
Hope this will help.
Thanks.
