I have a project that needs EasySocial integration and it can't go live until 3.2 is available.

Any idea how close we are to a release candidate?
Hello Adam,

EasyDiscuss 3.2 will be released pretty soon I can't give an exact time frame but what I can tell you is that the RC release is pretty near already

It sounds like there won't be full integration with EasySocial. ED 3.2 will not have ES comments.

Hi Adam,

If you upgraded EasyBlog recently you would have seen that you could integrate EasySocial comments rather then use EasyBlog comments. The same thing will happen with EasyDiscuss at some stage but not at this release (3.2) unfortunately. it is more about the look, if you are using all three of Stackideas's components, with EasySocial probably the main one, I think it is nice to give the site a unified look.

Hi Muhanad,

In order to integrate the comments you will need to go to EasyBlog backend. Then go to Settings/comments/integration. 3rd from the top is EasySocial Comments, switch that to YES. Keep in mind that once you will do that it will basically replace your previous comments as it is now using a different commenting system. It will look just the same as EasySocial's commenting look (simple).

Hope that help!

Until David's explanation, I'd actually overlooked the recent option to replace EB comments with the ES commenting system.

But I now realise that such an integration would be EXTREMELY useful to me! The reason is that I want to integrate EB and ED comments with Facebook, and of course this will be MUCH simpler if EB, ED and ES are all using the same commenting system, because then I'll only have to integrate one commenting systems with Facebook, not multiple.

So if Stack Ideas is not going to provide ES comments for ED some time soon, I may have to commission a programmer to do it for me, which will probably cost me many times what I paid for the Stack Ideas software. Of course I could go ahead and launch our site, and wait for Stack Ideas to introduce this feature later. But wait for how long? And how will I transfer the ED comments to the ES system?

I'd therefore be grateful for some indication of what level of priority will be given to having the option to use ES comments for ED. Can we expect something before the end of the year? And are there any plans to automate the migration of comments from ED to ES?

It's probably worthwhile mentioning that I abandoned an active Jomsocial subscription to move to EasySocial for the sole reason that it was being promoted as a way to seamlessly integrate EB and ED with social networking features. It is therefore my view that integrations between Stack Ideas applications should be given a higher priority than new product features.

Hi Muhanad,

I guess Komento is quite different. It gives you the freedom to place a commenting system on any Joomla or even Zoo page. The look is different but I understand that it is integrated with EasySocial, meaning that the user profile image is taken from Easysocial and comments comments made through Komento will be displayed on a EasySocial if you chose to do so.

Hi Adam,

I agree with you, integration of commenting is essential in my view point of one was using EB, ED and ES. I am sure we will get an idea when it will be released. Couldn't be that hard as all the software was built by Stackideas

Hi Adam,

I know that the Stackideas guys are in a Joomla conference in Thailand and that is the only reason you are not getting a response. Like yourself, I am very keen to have the comment integration but I am sure that it won't take too long for them to do so. Keep in mind also that the ES commenting system is different to the ED, therefore, if there are live comments on ED using its native comments and you switched half way to ES, you are basically using a new system.

Take care

@David: Many thanks for the heads-up re the conference!

Re your comment about ED and ES using different commenting systems, that's actually the reason why I want clarification on Stack Idea's plans for this integration. I do not want a scenario where I put live comments into ED, and then have a nightmare migrating these comments to a new system. Hence my inquiry above about whether there are any plans to automate the migration of comments from ED to ES.

Furthermore, I'm starting to take some serious heat from my stakeholders regarding delays to the launch of our site. The schedule was previously pushed back by several months while we waited for the release of ES (ie we originally planned to use Jomsocial, even bought a license). So postponing our launch further while we wait for this integration will be a problem for me, unless it can be done promptly.

Basically I have a new site that's been months in the making, which can't be launched until I have a resolution to this issue.

Hey guys,

I am really sorry that I was not around to participate in this discussion but let's talk. Let me know what are you guys seeking for between the comment integrations between EasySocial and EasyDiscuss and I can roughly estimate what / how long it needs to be done.

I would say the following would be important for me:

must
1) the ES comments are showing
2) comment counter on ED shows correctly the number of comments made

could be
3) comments appear on ES stream

What you have posted is pretty vague. What does it mean by ES comments are showing? Where should it show and when you mention ES comments showing, does it mean that it replaces the built-in comment system in EasyDiscuss or reply forms?

Hi Mark,

I am sorry about that. Forget first point. I just meant that they ES comments exist. I meant that it will replace the ED system comments

You mean just the comments and not those "replies"? The replies in EasyDiscuss is actually not the same as the "comments".

Sorry Mark,

It is getting too complicated. I'm basically asking for it to work the same way it works now on EasyBlog.

Hm, EasyDiscuss is entirely different than EasyBlog so not too sure what sort of similarity are you referring to? EasyBlog has a comment system and EasyDiscuss uses a q&a model.

You can't use comments as "reply" in a discussion because this will just break the entire logic of the discussion. For example, how would one choose a comment as the answer for a discussion?

Perhaps you should post a screen shot of how you think it should be integrated?

When I first saw David's post:

It sounds like there won't be full integration with EasySocial. ED 3.2 will not have ES comments.

I (mistakenly?) assumed that this was a planned feature which hadn't made it into ED 3.2. So to be honest, I hadn't given much thought about precisely how this would be implemented, as I had assumed those decisions had already been made.

But now that I have thought through the logic, I am less than confident that it would work.

That said, if David has a workable solution in mind I'd be thrilled!

Hi Adam,

I'm sorry as I don't really have any idea. It escapes me how Stackideas could flog this release as a full integration with ES and not included ES comments. At the same time, I know they are doing their best and it is just a matter of time before it will be released

I am actually a little lost here guys. What sort of integrations are you looking at ? You mention that you want to have comments integrated with EasyDiscuss which is similar like EasyBlog but if you are wanting us to replace the reply form with EasySocial's comment system, that is almost impossible and it will defeat the purpose of EasyDiscuss altogether because you then cannot accept a comment as an answer.

Hi Mark,

So you are basically saying that there will be no ES comments integration with ED. If you look above on this too-long forum chat, you said on the 21st November, when I asked if there will be ES Comments integration:

Hello David,

This will be planned for the future versions instead

Maybe if you can clarify what do you have in mind? Also, I see your point about not being able to accept an ES comment as answer as it stands now. I really think Mark that with a bit of clarity you can just lay it to rest as it is really going on for too long.

Will there be ES comments in Easydiscuss and if so, when? (general timescale: December, January, February, etc.)

Thank you!

I am sorry but I think this is getting overboard. I have clearly mentioned that the comments integrations that I was referring to the comments in EasyDiscuss and not the replies.

1. EasyDiscuss replies will NOT be replaced with EasySocial comments.

2. EasyDiscuss comment integrations with EasySocial will be added in the future as a replacement to the comments in EasyDiscuss and not the replies.
