Unless I'm missing something here, the link you provided does not allow me to control what actions appear in the stream. For example, how would I prevent the stream from showing that someone has joined the site or someone has become a friend?

Oh I see. You can go to Backend > EasySocial > Applications > Applications to check it out.

For prevent the stream from showing that someone has joined the site, you can disable it as shown in the screenshot. https://take.ms/3KJkE

For someone has become a friend, you can disable it as shown in the screenshot. https://take.ms/GGqqy
