Hello Mark,

I see from the roadmap that the groups/Pages/Clusters functionality in now in development.

I've not had any feedback on the contributions to 'voices' or otherwise heard anything about what you now have in mind.

Having subscribed with only the promise that we'll get groups soon, I am anxious to know if what you are writing will work for us.

Can you provide some feedback?

Thanks
Chris
Hello Chris,

I can't really disclose anything right now because we're still working on it We need to build features that works for everyone initially

Hi Randall,

Yea... not very nice ... especially for those of us who are both anxious to contribute and have allot to loose if the "features that works for everyone initially" don't work for us. For my part, I'm not even sure that the pages that I added to the voices section were even read.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it will be good... ... From my perspective, I just need to have a feel for how if it's going to be usable, much more we're going to have to do to make it usable and how we're going to approach doing it.

I guess only time will tell.

Christopher,

There is one thing I have learned after 55 years on this planet. TO HAVE PATIENCE.

Mark and his Team are brewing up their version of Groups and I have COMPLETE CONFIDENCE in them to make it happen and make it GOOD for everyone. Software takes time.

My comments are meant to tease Mark into giving us some hints. They are keeping things tight to the chest on what they are doing because there is finally some heavy competition in the Social networking extension space of Joomla now, and I am sure that the Jomsocial team is watching to see what the StackIdeas Team implements next.

I am PATIENT with Mark and his TEAM, and I am willing to give them the BENEFIT of any DOUBT that what they deliver to us for Groups will be GOOD.

Mark and his team have yet to let their users down with anything they have done, I just hope they make the group system universal enough to be heavily customized like the profiles.

Hey Randal, Alex,

Yea... one learns a thing or two over a long and hopefully prosperous life (I'm 52 myself). Patience is certainly a good think to have but unfortunately life also teaches us not to assume too much and that if one can find a way gather a bit of information to help one make a good decision, then that's never a bad thing.

"Mark and his team have yet to let their users down"... Dude... everyone let's everyone down at one time or another. I, for one, am still waiting for a promised extension to easyDiscuss to make it work with JomSocial but I'm a big boy and understand that what I want or need isn't always going to be there for me when I want or need it, even when people say that they are going to deliver.

Perhaps I should have attempted to soften my post a bit more. It was not intended to come across as either critical or negative... I only hoped to convey a sense of regret and disappointed to have spent allot of time thinking about how Social Cluster might be done in a very generic way, to have written it all up but then receive no real feedback. I'm still not sure that anyone actually read it.

I also believe that Mark's and his team are going to deliver something works very well; is as flexible as is humanly possible; and is delivered as quickly as can be managed.

So... I'll continue to be patient... I'll not regret buying the licence to show my support (even tough I have no use at all for it until there's groups functionality in there)... I'll continue to submit ideas and suggestions as the come to me... and I'll even continue to spend money (potentially even wasting much of it) developing my own solution around something that might not even work the way that I hope it will... and I'll do it smiling all the way

That said... come on guys... it's really too much to ask... or even too much to hope for a bit of communication concerning a component that is quite literally at the centre of a system that we've invested many, many, man years building. I know... I know... patience... All just my 2 cents worth .

Hello guys,

Thanks for the support and patience, I appreciate that very much. Christopher, I have actually read through your suggestions on voices prior to even starting works on the groups I can say that almost half of what you have mentioned will be in the groups (We can't fit in all in the first release because this will pro-long the release cycle which is bad).

@Christopher caruk

I agree with a lot of your remarks you have made but asking for a extension to be built for Jom Social if like asking Ferrari to build an engine that will be used in a Porsche, its daft at this very early stage while they are still maturing their own Social platform.

If you want to pour money into something that may not be suited to you then that is your decision, Like Mark has said he has read your voices posts and added some of the feature requests.

I don't think we could ask for more as there are some good ideas i also like on your post over at the voice page

One question i will ask Mark, do you have any time frame on the release

Kind Regards
Alex

I too am eager for groups, but I'm not asking for what groups has because Mark has a very specific reason for not mentioning it's specifications.

@Christopher: I know what you mean about not being able to use a software that you paid for and not quite being able to use it yet. But as EasySocial progresses, especially at the rate it has been, the wait will be well worth it. From my stand point it's the difference between having an okay site and an awesome site! (Using community builder now versus waiting for EasySocial) I've been playing the wait game for over 4 years with Joomla (no exaggeration there). But I am very happy I waited. Had I settled I would have ran into a lot of dead ends with a lot less features. EasySocial is designed with a lot of flexibility and the staff has been totally awesome. So while my site is not quite ready to invite people in yet, a few features would make this a golden reality. Literally something I dreamed of having a few years back wondering if it was possible. I now know that it certainly is.

While I personally have a lot of ideas, my strategy is to not overwhelm the StackIdeas team by creating a list (text document) and pour it out slowly. I hope I'm not going too fast on giving out requests. Also keep in mind that giving out suggestions that helps the most people also helps increase your chances of the item being considered.

I'll end by saying that I really appreciate the work the StackIdeas team does. I see progress on the horizon, and it's looking pretty good.

@Mark, Thanks for the update. It's good to know that they were read and that muck of it has been accommodated

@Alex, It was a couple years ago. Long before easySocial and yea... it would have meant many changed to the JomSocial template and would have been hard to manage and maintain but all the same we needed it and at one point (I believe that) it was strongly considered by StackIdeas. In the end we built it ourselves but the point was more that that one does not always get what one wants Also... thanks for the feedback re the posts.

@Josh, I completely agree but find that, often, the best time to present ideas is when something is being developed. It can be much easier to design-in a way to approach solving many problem when you're first structuring the way things work. I also agree with your sentiment re the team at Stack Ideas and also believe that many good things re coming.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the support / constructive feedback. This is really helpful and it really motivates the team and myself However, I do think that we shouldn't "speculate" anything right now until the time is right for us to release some teaser shots for the groups. All I can say is that, what I have saw from the designer's sketch / design it is absolutely amazing and it's going to have the best group functionality ever and it's really engaging too
