Following a comment from Randall in the "Why EasySocial V 1.0 Will Help Social Community Managers Succeed?" I thought that I should start a thread for this.

So... Form our perspective groups does not need to be too sophisticated but here what we would like it to have.

1) a group profile that is similar to what you have for users (not essential but a really nice thing to have). Minimally groups need to have a picture, description, name, various flags (public, private, etc)

2) Groups should configurable to be private or public

3) Groups should have public or private discussions (EasyDiscuss) or blogs (EasyBlog) and contributions to either should be shown in the activity stream for the group (and user).

4) Within groups you should see an activity stream that shows what members of the group are doing. Since a user might be a member of multiple groups some though needs to be given to whether events which are specific to one group are shown in another ... For example it a user is a member of 2 private groups (A and B) and he/she participates in a discussion that is private to group A then members of that group should see something in the activity stream but members of groups B should not.

5) The group activity stream should include notifications for people joining or leaving the group

6) if events, photos, and videos are added then groups should have them too. For me these are less important than groups themselves and of the 3 events are the most important.

7) a group file archive would be nice, but not essential

8) there should be a configurable option to allow specific members to approve memberships in the group

9) administrators should be able to designate moderators and administrators and moderators need to be able to remove users, activity entries and perhaps group specific discussions, responses and blog entries

10) there should be several ways to list groups and a way to apply for entry... this is where a configurable profile would be nice. It would allow us to define what information is required for entry into the group.

11) A member profile page should show what groups he is in.

12) a privacy option would be nice so that users can decide whether to show what groups they are in or specifically exclude some of the groups from this list.

13) send an e-mail to all members is nice to have but not necessary.

14) User configurable e-mail notifications to members by mail would be nice

15) some form of group categorization would be nice.

16) report a group to the moderator would be nice. Does Easy Social do this?

98) There should be a way to sync Joomla groups and EasySocial groups... especially since EasyBlog and EasyDiscuss use Joomla groups.

99) ideally it should trigger events on group add, group remove, add member, remove member, etc

That's it for now. I'll post more as I think of it.

Chris
Groups is still useful and essential in whatever name it may take. What is the time frame for such a release? That is, when can we anticipate the first release of EasySocial with Groups feature?

EasySocial Pages (Groups) will be available some time in December according to the RoadMap.

EasySocial Roadmap - 2.0.0 December 2013 - http://stackideas.com/roadmap/easysocial?milestone=2.0.0

From what I can gather EasySocial Pages will be modeled after Google + Circles: If this is so, then I am excited about this feature capability as it is so much better way of representing Groups than having a clone of Facebook Pages, or Jomsocial's lame Groups.

What then are Google Circles? Google Circles are a way to group people together based around the relation you have with people. You may have circles for different members of your family, work colleagues, interest groups etc. Here is a very good, short video from Google on what ‘Circles’ are all about…

Video showing Google Plus Circles - I added this just in case you don't understand what Google Circles is like.

If the task status updates in the roadmap are accurate the work has not yet started on version 1.2 (which includes groups). Though I think that Mark and his team are an extremely talented group, I'm not sure that they could possibly deliver v1.2 (with groups) by December. Hopefully though, it will arrive soon after

I've taken the wish list from above and recast it from a Circles / Social Cluster perspective. They are all at these locations and hopeful they will act as a repository for ideas relating to these aspects of Social Clusters (EasyCircles?).

Eager for groups - it does seems like a lot to ask for a December release on v1.2 features if there are still pending features on 1.1. If you do, amazing. If you know you won't, could you update the roadmap?

Or wait better yet, bump the groups/pages feature up into 1.1...

Wow, these are great ideas and a great list! The Google Circles sounds great.

Keen to be involved on any brainstorming or workgroups. Love StackIdeas, Mark and his team are superb! EasySocial v1.2 rocks, it is really awesome compared to the struggles which we had to endure with JomSocial for far too long. Well, in saying that they were great up to a couple of years ago and then it all went wrong.

can't wait for further developments.
