Hi Guys,

Can I get a quick crash course on the various difference between:

a member, an owner and an admin member

in a group. i suppose member is way more restrictive but can I:
-set a user to be owner but not an admin ? or
-an owner MUST be an admin?
-can there be more than one owner ? If so, what this will cause ?
-can there be more than one admin ?
-etc

Thanks guys
Hello Alexandre,

User A and User B almost has very similar privileges except that they cannot remove an owner but an owner can remove an admin.

Hello Alexandre,

Please find the response to your inquiries below:

-set a user to be owner but not an admin ? or

An owner is an owner

-an owner MUST be an admin?

An owner is like super user

-can there be more than one owner ? If so, what this will cause ?

You can have more than 1 admins but you can only have 1 owner.

-can there be more than one admin ?

Yep, you definitely can

Hi Mark,

Therefore,
A) an owner is a super user and doesn't need to be an admin (even if it would mean more sense than he should be both owner and admin) ?
B) if owner is a super, what an owner can do that an admin cannot do ?

This is my sense of having a sort of ACL even so it is not define in the backend. My script is setting the variable to add extra user, I just want to know what they will or won't be able to do depending on the setting I set.

Many thanks again Mark for my zillion Qs.

Alex

hey alexandre,
just to clarify: the group roles have nothing to do with their joomla usergroup. so a group admin / owner is not ranked up to a super user / administrator in joomla at all (just want to mention that because of your ACL comment).

simply put for a group:
- the owner is the one who created it, so he's a group admin by default.
- there can be other group admins as well. these admins have special privileges, for example they can kick a user etc. - things they need to manage the group.
- a member is simply someone who joined the group and can participate. but he has no special rights to manage / change the group at all, he can only participate inside the given rules.

hope that helps and gives a better understanding

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the comment.
If i would have an owner to which i revoke admin title, would it only then be a title "owner" thing or that owner, even without admin, would have more rights than a regular member ?

Thanks again

Hello Alexandre,

If you are an owner of the group, you are like a super user You don't have to be an admin of the group.

Hey Mark,

Ok thanks for comment. One last Q:
If User A is owner but not admin but User B is admin and not owner.

Does User A === User B as for of priviledgew, views and actions ?

Or User A can view/do more stuff than admin ?

Alex
