I was wondering if there is a setting somewhere to limit the amount of text shown for group discussions on the stream? At the moment a long discussion is fully displayed and the formatting is stripped leaving a big ugly wall of text on the stream.
Also, replies made to a group discussion are shown as a new entry on the stream instead of as a comment to the original discussion entry on the stream and comments made to the stream item are not added as a reply to the actual discussion.

UPDATE: Randall kindly pointed out the settings to restrict the amount of text shown on the stream but the setting is not working, on old or new group discussion stream items.

Gavin,

Go into the back-end EasySocial Dashboard > Applications > filter for Applications and look for Group - Discussions app and open it to set the settings for Content length and other things.

You will probably want to set it for Group - News app (Announcements) and set it too. Many of the applications can have various settings. Explore and you'll find there are many things that can be set for many of the apps.

ok found it and set it to 50 but it doesn't appear to do anything. Discussions are not truncated on the stream still. Does it work for you Randall?

I found that it does not limit the content on the stream as expected. This needs to be reported as an issue that needs to be fixed.

It should update all previous discussion posts to the set limit and also limit the new discussion posts.

Indeed. I noticed it didn't do anything to existing discussions or to new ones either.

Gavin,

Maybe add an Update notice at the top of the discussion to your first post to notify Mark that there is an issue with this so it doesn't get missed.

The SI Team is working on the v1.2.4 update and hopefully this will be addressed if they notice your post.

Hey guys,

Good catch! Download the attached file and upload it into /media/com_easysocial/apps/group/discussions/ and overwrite the discussions.php file.

Thanks Mark,

I will download and add this in the morning.

I can't recall if News Announcement updated properly after changing the setting! I'll check this again tomorrow to make sure it works properly.

Works great, thanks for that Mark.

About the reply functionality? Replies made to a group discussions are shown as a new entry on the stream instead of as a comment to the original discussion entry on the stream and comments made to the stream item are not added as a reply to the actual discussion.

Is that how it is meant to be/will remain or will you make it so that they are synced? It's the same with Kommento comments, it just seems odd to have replies show up as separate entries on the stream, especially now that you made stream items bump up to the top if they get a comment or like. I notice some of my users make comments to these stream items from EB/ED and now the Group Discussions and the rest of them are replying to the actual post from within EB/ED so we have like 2 separate sets of replies going on. Would be awesome to have the main discussion and all it's replies as one item on the stream

Hello Gavin,

Yes, replies should have it's own stream item as currently replies are not linked to "comments" on the stream.

Could we possibly get an option to turn off commenting on these stream items then? Group Discussion, Easyblog and Easydiscuss entries.
