I am sorry but we do not have a migrator for phpBB at this point of time. However, what you can do is to migrate from phpBB to one of the following forum extensions,

- Kunena
- vBulletin

And EasyDiscuss will be able to migrate them over.

Sorry but I don't quite get you here. What news are you referring to?

He would like to know (and so would I) if a migration tool from PhpBB to EasyDiscuss has been developed since the OP posted in 2016. We have a large phpBB site that we are looking to migrate to EasyDiscuss.

Currently we didn't plan to implement this PhpBB migration tool in Easydiscuss, but you actually can migrate over to Kunena first then only migrate it to Easydiscuss.
