friend suggestion

Hi

I have a question regarding friend suggestions for address fields.
What kind of algorithm is used to suggest users as friends to a log in user?

If I set this to TRUE, User's address has to be exact match to log in users or partial match would work to come up in friend suggestions?

Does it also suggest users of different user profile type to a log in user if the address field have the same unique name across different profile types?

I have searched everywhere in the forum or documentations, but could not find any..
Much appreciate if you can shed a light on this feature.

Hey there,

The friend suggestions level is based on the number of common friends that you have. For instance,

- user A is friends with user B
- user C is friends with user B

If user D is friends with user A and C, the system would then suggest user B.

But I am actually more puzzled now why address fields have "Use in Friend Suggest" setting..?
Hence my question in the original post. What does it do for exactly?

If I set "Use in Friend Suggest" to TRUE, User's address has to be exact match to log in users or partial match would work to come up in friend suggestions?

I am sorry for the delay of this reply,

It will see your current logged in user address 'city', 'state', 'country' data and see is it matched with other registered user, if yes, it will show these user in friend suggestion widget area.

Thanks for your update,

Can I please clarify that you meant that system looks up two instances as below, then friend suggestion is populated if one of them somehow return "true" value?


Number of mutual friends
Address if "Use in Friend Suggest" is set to True

I've checked again, it seems like that was some bug, can you try download my attached file and replace into following file location from your site and see how it goes?
