Does FontAwesome work with the Vanilla template? So i can attach icons to menu items. If it doesn't, is there another such service that works so i can do this?

Yes font awesome is supported in Vanilla template. In the menu items themselves, you can choose which icons to attach beside them as you can see in the screenshots below.
