Filter for featured Posts from one ore more Categories

Hello StackIdeas
We would like to explicitly filter out featured posts in a custom module from certain categories. The ED database class does not cover this case. What can we do?

Since it is a custom module, why don't you construct your own queries? Wouldn't that be much easier for you to manage in the future?
