Hey Robert,

Your ffmpeg version is actually too old You need at least 2.6.x

Hi Mark!

Thank you, I have created a new inquiry at CloudAccess to upgrade the legacy version of FFMPEG. I am waiting for their response from their system administrator.

Hi Ezrul!

I have a big problem now. Cloud Access wrote me the following:

-----------------------------------------
Kris Sibinski || Staff
Hi Robert,

I'm afraid for the time being this is the only version we can offer.

There isn't any new version in our operating system repositories and compilation from source is out of question on our production servers.

Regards,

Kris Sibinski | System Administrator

Just for you Information. I wrote this back to CloudAccess:

Robert Aksan || Client
Hello Kris!

This is a huge problem for me!

Your CEO (Jonathan James Gafill) is advertising on StackIdeas homepage that EasySocial is a wise Investment. I asked you pre-sales to check the requirements and also FFMPEG .....all findings were ok.

Now I get confronted with a standard software-component you offer which is too old. This issue puts my whole project and investment on risk. What exactly do you mean with: "there isn't any new version in our operating system repositories"? This part is at least 3 years old.

What do you advise? Move to another hosting-product of CloudAccess or another provider?

Thnx and br.
Robert

Hm, I need to be able to install that ancient version but it's going to be extremely tedious to write a backward compatibility for old ffmpeg versions

It's like rewriting EasySocial to support Joomla 1.0 but recompiling ffmpeg to the latest version or at least 2.6 would be pretty easy.

Hi Mark!

I really appreciate your efforts. Thnx! I can imagine this might going to be a tricky thing.
Shall we first wait on the response of CloudAccess and then decide what to do?

Hello Mark!

I received a response from CloudAcces:
----------------------------
Hi Robert,

We created our own install package for FFMPEG tool and it's been installed on our server as of now. The currently available version is 2.8.3. Please check if it satisfies EasySocial requirement.

I still have the problem that it doesn't start encoding Videos (MP4). I only see: "Encoding your video... 0%" So I asked CloudAccess about the path and the rights to execute. Again waiting for Feedback.

Can you in the meantime please inform me if I need to configure something special beside the standard configuration by EasySocial Backend Video settings?

Thx.
Robert

Additional comment from CloudAccess ist:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Keith Petkus || Staff
Hello Robert,

The absolute path to the binary is:
/usr/bin/ffmpeg

I checked and can confirm that it is possible to execute this program on your hosting space:
-sh-4.1$ /usr/bin/ffmpeg
ffmpeg version 2.8.3-static http://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/ Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the FFmpeg developers

Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Regards,

Keith Petkus | Joomla & WordPress Support Engineer

It is working now! The video was uploaded, encoded and was playable.
Now the only thing is, I want to store the video on S3. I will open another thread for that.

Thx
