hello
I've just been creating a few users t test everything works and this is happening.

when i register the first user I noticed this message

Notice

Could not instantiate mail function.

but it let me log in ok so i started to edit the profile and it said the email wasnt valid yet it was.

I created another user and got the same message at the end of the sign up

Notice

Could not instantiate mail function.

this time the email seemed ok but was told the permalink i entered wasnt valid so I changed it

Now I can access that profile from both permalinks?

I looking in php myadmin and can see there are blank spaces/profiles and missing info from some of the profiles, such as the main super user whose name has not been updated.

I must admit progress is a bit slow without being that schooled in the ways of programming and what not but I'd like to think I will beable to leave this site live by the end of the month.

But any issues with sign ups, valid info saying its not valid or the database not updating correctly could do to be sorted out.

Any ideas on what could be wrong greatly received

Thanks
Hi Jason,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Is your issue now resolved? If not, can you tell me how we can replicate the issue on your site?
Please advise.

Hello Jason,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. The one and only reason that this particular message is displayed on the site is when the mail server (The one that you configured in Joomla's Global Configuration) cannot contact the recipient e-mail address.

Normally to debug such issues, I would perform the following checks first:

1. Check if your using a proper email settings in Joomla Global Configuration. If unsure, check with your hosting provider.

2. Is the recipient's e-mail address valid?

Hello Mark I checked with the hosting and got sorted once i set up the mail for smpt

I register a couple of new users to test and it seems ok in the sense I'm not getting the messages I was before and emails seem to be going to both user and admin as expected

apart from now it shows a message saying enter user name, even though above that the message reads

Thank you! Your account is now activated and you may login with your login credentials.

I can understand why it says

Please enter a user name. when one has already been entered.

I registered a few more times and am getting the Please enter a user name. message right from the start of registration, it stays even when user name has been entered and again once the registration is complete.

I just dont know why its doing this it only started once i fixed the other errors by correcting my email config

thanks

just tried again with a new user and didnt get any messages at all, so i tried to log in which it let me, then the message showed up saying account had been activated and now i could log in.

I know its something and nothing but I think messages should show up at the correct times shouldnt they?

thanks

Hello Jason,

Do you have progressive caching enabled? Try to disable the progressive caching. There are times where the progressive caching is pretty problematic!

hello mark no i do not have cache currently enabled.....hang on I think i have something enabled via my hosting, supercache & or possibly something else so I'll get all those turned off and see if it sorts things out for me.

thanks

hello mark

I checked and I did have sitegrounds super cache turned on but I dont think that had anything to do with this problem, i switched it off, but still getting the message to enter a user name

then no more messages until the account is activated upon which the green message shows up saying account activated and you can log in, which previously only showed up prior to logging in for the first time, i know its not a major issue but i cant understand why its behaving as it is.

thanks
