Facebook share not working correctly

Hello,

1. To reproduce you should have a group with a profile picture and cover set up.
2. Now share some pictures in group stream (simple upload in stream)
3. Now press social share on an image you just shared
4. When pressing a social share button for first time, image wont load, or sometimes it load just fine.
5. Image just loaded is a group profile picture not the image on which you pressed the social share button, if the image is correct then try to share it on facebook, and in facebook you will notice that it shared a group profile picture.

This problem in not just with groups, whatever you shared on any stream it load something else not that you try to share, i am talking about images.

This really isn't an issue with EasySocial. When you first shared the item on Facebook, Facebook needs to crawl the site to get the contents and this is why the image isn't appearing the first time. On subsequent shares, the item appears on Facebook share.

As for sharing the group URLs, it does not share the photo which is the correct behavior because it should be rendering the group's avatar. I am sharing the group and not the pictures within the group

Hello Mark,

But this is kinda strange, if someone upload a funny photo and i want to share it on FB - i can't, because it shares just a link with other image to the original image, this is kinda weird. Then i don't see the point of social share in this case.

Hello Steve,

If someone uploads a funny photo, you share the stream and not the group's URL When sharing the stream on Facebook for the first time, I am not really sure why is Facebook not generating any images (perhaps it's due to some caching) but it seems like if you share it the second time, it picks up the photo correctly.

Hello Mark,

Yes i am sharing the stream url with social share button. But sometimes it works just fine, sometimes it wont pick that photo, but other photo from stream content. Strange...

Hello Steve,

I am quite puzzled as well because I believe Facebook is somehow caching those urls. Does anyone else face similar problems?

I shared a link tonight on facebook (Joomla article). On the first attempt the thumbnail did not load at all. I tried again a little while later and it allowed me to select a few photos. I'm guessing this has something to do with crawling the site. EasySocial's share system in my honest opinion is much nicer than Facebook's in terms of it's ability to generate thumbnails. A lot more choices, no special tags required, and works the first time.

kinda old topic, but there is https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ i am trying to fix when i share my domain on facebook and its showing a profile picture instead something else
