Hi Jannik,

reference your post:

I would love to see something along those lines. Any type of goals tracking or project management features that can be added at some point are very welcome. I have tried to subscribe to Personal Goals Manager by JoomPlace but they have never been able to get it to work on my site due to several compatibility conflicts... and sadly that is the only Goals Manager that is available for Joomla.

The following thread has apparently been locked by the originator: http://stackideas.com/forums/easysocial-feedback so I was unable to respond.

I too have tried Joomplace's Personal Goals Manager, additionally their Checklist Pro (thinking I could customise it) and also ProjectFork - it seems we are searching for a similar thing. I also had lods of problems trying to integrate it into my community (Jomsocial) and as far as I know there wasn't an integration with EasySocial. With ProjectFork the integration was just a link to the Jomsocial Profile page as far as far as I could see.

Having assessed EasySocial, I think its almost there for what I need to do. The Tasks is the closest solution I have seen so far - it just needs a couple of extra features (that those of us who are looking for a watered down project management tool) could use. The file manager is also really good (compared to Jomsocial) but could benefit from a few extra features too. I have posted 2 feature requests in Voice:

http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/item/433

http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/item/434

I also spotted (and voted for) your contribution

I have only been working with EasySocial for a day, and already loving it

Hi Mel,
First of all welcome to the world of EasySocial, your life is about to change for the better as a result. Far better product than JomSocial (I have lots of experience with both).

I would absolutely love to see a goals manager/project manager with ES integration, and I had never considered Tasks as a base, but now that you say it, it wouldn't be far off. Joomla sadly has no functioning Goals Manager available (no I do not consider JoomPlace Personal Goals Manager to be a functional solution.) Although it does have a relatively decent Project Manager: ProjectFork.

Personally I am looking more for something in-between Lifetick.com & http://42goals.com/demo, as I run a personal development site. Personal Goals Manager is the general concept of what I am looking for but it is an absolute mess. So our use cases are a bit different. That said feature set wise they are very much the same and a well thought out solution should be flexible enough to appeal to either use case. (Think of how flexible jReviews is, good software can be used for various projects)

I don't know how likely we are to get enough support to encourage Stackideas to evolve the tasks to serve the purpose of Personal and Professional Goals/Project tracking... but it would be amazing if we could

Hi Jannik,

I also need the personal development type feature that you describe (for another project) and so far have not found anything that ticked all the boxes - for Joomla at least which is my preferred platform. Its a shame about Joomplace's Personal Goals Manager, as if they worked on it, I am sure one day it would be a good component. I like parts of it, but it needed too much work doing to it for what I needed and for it to look integrated and sleek.

I think having this kind of feature in EasySocial would actually draw more people towards it - no other community software that I know of has this - yet. Although I appreciate that what sounds like something simple to achieve in theory, is probably actually a massive and time consuming job to develop - hence the need for more supporters to justify them spending the time on it.

Fingers crossed more people become interested

Yeah, it is sad that only JoomPlace offer something... that that the one offering available is so poorly developed and designed. I have had nothing but headaches. I have subscribed to it twice to give it a shot and have never been able to use it on a live site because it just doesn't work. Too many compatibility issues, too poor UI and UX... too many steps to use... but there is just no alternative out there right now. I have tried asking various developers to consider creating a goals tracker, but no one has stepped up to the plate.

Hi Jannik,

I too am surprised that there is very little out there. I have also wasted so much time and money trying to make the most of a bad job with other components.

I was very excited to see the way EasySocial is going where its good for a business as well as social community. If they can adapt/enhance the Tasks app it would be good if we had additional fields that allowed us to differentiate between personal goals/objectives and professional ones (project management etc.).

Joomplace have some great ideas in their products, I just think they maybe need some developers like stackideas have to polish them up. Also, I never felt like they listened when customers pointed out obvious usability flaws, they saw it as custom work.

@mark - you are welcome. May I ask the question, how feasible is it that your team might consider something along the lines of what Jannik and myself are seeking? Either by adapting the Tasks App or a new product altogether but that integrates with EasySocial?

I think EasyProject has a definite ring to it

Kind regards

Yeah, while Personal and Professional Goals Tracking is a bit of a niche, it is a niche that is booming. Look at all the health and fitness trackers that have been released lately. People are becoming more goals oriented. The lack of a functioning solution for Joomla is a missed opportunity. The first company to get one to a working state with a sleek easy to use UI/UX will definitely feel this boom.

I agree.

I was just about to suggest that maybe an approach to either corejoomla.com or techjoomla.com would be good as they have some really good, well designed products - but I see you have already been there done that after I did a quick Google search

They (developers) all keep saying the same thing - only if there is a demand. Like you, I believe the demand is there - its who takes a risk and develops the product first. Personally I think Stackideas have the head start here as all the components are already there and the startings of the solution is quite possibly within tasks? its something that would fit perfectly into EasySocial for business/professional communities. Plus, it would be nice to have a component developed by the people responsible for buidling EasySocial or Jomsocial as you know the integration will fit seamlessly.

I first started out with Community Builder years ago (2009) and I know they did have an extension where you could do something along these lines - it was one of the few things I liked about it (as it was for a fitness site that needed to track progress. You could set targets, monitor progress and so on. I don't think it exists anymore, but even still, I don't think I could move back to CB just for that particular functionality as the rest of CB didn't fit my needs.

Its incredible really that there are very few options in terms of Joomla components for project / goals management, as PM has been around for donkeys years and is an integral part of most businesses today, whether it be for simple team working right through to full product development projects etc.

I tried approaching TechJoomla here: http://techjoomla.com/forums/question/please-consider-making-a-competing-product-to-personal-goals-manager.html

Feel free to bump the post with your support for the idea. I haven't tried approaching CoreJoomla but if you do, I will support your post

Hello Mel,

I can't really give you a definite answer on this because if there are more requests for this, we will consider this. This is actually why we are requesting you guys to submit for feature requests at http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial so that we can get a clearer picture of what our customers are looking forward to
