I'm using the File apps to upload files to an event page.

It looks like the file can then only be accessed by a logged-in person.

Is this right / is there a setting somewhere to allow guests to get to the files?

Thanks.
OK anybody following this thread, here's the VOICES request to enable our site visitors to be able to download files associated with Open Events without having to login first... please vote for it!

Hello Andy,

If the events is public, then guests would be able to view them.

Hi Mark. OK that's what I'd expect. Trying to test this now and I seem to have lost the option to upload files to my events.... can you direct me to the backend setting that enables this?

I've looked at the Events File Application where everything seems to be 'On'.... I've looked at the Event Category where file sharing is 'On' and I've looked through Profile Type too but not seeing the important thing which enables the file upload as right now logged in event owner / admin isn't seeing this.

Hi,

Currently "unregistered users" will not be able to access the file app directly.

For registered users and not an event guest, then he/she will have to filter the stream by "File application" to download the files.

This is because the file application is an interface for user to "manage" files.

Oh no. This is very worrying news for me.

So an event owner can't upload an event flyer / registration form for everyone to see?

That seems to be taking the Easy right out of EasySocial Events

But as Event Owner, I can't even access the upload file feature either... Is that something wrong with my site?

Hi,

Perhaps the "File Field" is what you are looking for in terms of event flyer/registration form?

Do include your site's access/FTP access here so that I can check out why you can't access the upload file feature.

My trouble with the file field is the fact that it doesn't appear on the default event view..... so in reality no one will see it (this is the issue reported by others elsewhere re: the event details not showing as default instead of / as well as the timeline)

So I'm trying my best to work with the Upload File feature... Attaching my FTP here... I can send example details of a real user and his event too if that helps. So you can login as him and see there's no way for him to upload files.

THANKS for your help.

My site seems to have ground to a halt. I've reported it to my server people. Hopefully it'll be ok again by the time you're able to look at this for me.

UPDATE: Server people have sorted the speed out (wasn't related to my site)... so should be ok for you now whenever you're ready.

In this post I'm included the URL of an event, and the login of it's owner... if you login with that and visit the event, you'll see there's no way for him to upload files?

Please don't email this person (you'll see the login provided is his email) as he doesn't know I'm using him as a tester!

@Andy, I can't access your site's backend but with a preliminary debug through FTP shows that you have the event category access set to disable files.

Since I can't access your site's backend, can you check if access at backend -> Events -> Event Categories -> Access to see if the file access is properly set?

P/S you might want to do a "save" to refresh the settings.

That category (Run / Walk) has File Sharing set to YES.

Adding my site back-end details again to this post. If it was the speed stopping you last time, that should be ok now.

@Andy, it was not the speed actually (the speed is great). Backend seems to not acknowledge the account that you've provided.

@Andy thanks! Am able to access now and identified a bug with events access (due to id mismatch). I've patched this on your site.

OK this is working now... but as you said would be the case, my site visitors cannot access the files without logging in. This will uncertainly drive people mad with frustration and annoyance. Because of the nature of my site, many people attending the events I have wouldn't actually be interested in becoming site members.. I don't want to force them to join like this.

Is there anyway an option to allow unregistered file access on events is possible via a hack or squeezing it into upcoming release, or do I have to get this one on to VOICES?

OK will do... and just in case of any misunderstanding, I'm not saying guests should be able to access the 'app' itself... rather just be able to download the files that other people have taken the time to upload for that purpose! They can already see the link to the file... they just get stopped from opening it :-(
