Currently, it is impossible to do that in the backend at this point of time.

But in the frontend, you can able to sort the event in the event page. (Kindly refer both of the screenshots)

Can you have a try and see how it goes?

Many thanks, it looks great, I have set your proposal for the customer and wait for his reaction.
Just a little advice for the Calendar module settings => "-- Select category --" is missing (see image enclosed). "Select category" should be displayed instead of the first category.

Thanks for your reporting and suggestion.

For your information, if you choose 'All' in 'Filter Event By', it will refer to all the Event Category.

If you choose 'Specific Category' in 'Filter Event By', it will refer what you choose in 'Select Event Category'.
