It is something I have raised before as the current Calendar User experience in Dashboard/Profile is a pet hate of mine in EasySocial, but trying to find a solution that allows the Calendar to have as much space as possible without leaving the profile or dashboard area has eluded me until now.

When I am in my own dashboard or profile area, or viewing the profile of another member, I flick down through the available apps (for example, Blog, Calendar, Comments, Discuss, Feeds, Notes) but because the Calendar currently takes me OUT of the dashboard or profile area, I skip it until I have viewed the other apps to avoid the frustration of going out and back instead of a quick viewing experience in the stream area as i flick down through the apps.

If I am viewing another profile and the member allows me to see his calendar, I prefer a slick UX by quickly going down through the list of visible apps to see what the content shows me in the stream area but the calendar is the only app that does not follow this route.

It is also a pain to have to go out of the other member profile area to view the calendar, especially if there is nothing in it......

I accept the calendar needs max space to display content clearly, especially in month view, so my suggested solution is this:

When you click on the Calendar app, you see a note in the stream area that says "There are no events listed in the Calendar" or, if there are events, the date, time/all day and title of each event is listed in date order, starting from the current date (events prior to the current date are ignored).

If I want to see details of an event it can appear as a pop up on a hover and if I wish to go to the full calendar a button link is available.

If I am in my own Dashboard or Profile, perhaps an 'Add New Event' button as well, allowing me to add an event without leaving the dashboard/profile area at all?

It means the calendar viewing area is not affected and I can get the information I need quickly for a good UX, especially when viewing another member profile.

The 'Summary Event List' can be a yes/no option controlled either at admin level or when a user is installing the app (or both).

I know I should post this in Voices, but in v 1.0.8 this is the only thing that gives me negative vibes in the otherwise great component so I thought I would post here instead as hopefully it is something that could be added into v 1.1............
Hello Richard,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. The idea of the "calendar" app is to display in a larger canvas view. If you are going to fit in the calendar on a "minimum width" of 600px for the component area, it's going to look really bad

I agree with you Mark, but I am not at all suggesting changing the way the existing Calendar view works outside the stream, only requesting the app show a simple list of Events (taken from the Calendar) to be shown in the stream view or a note to say none available if no events are in the Calendar and have a button in the stream to allow the user to go to full Calendar view outside the stream (with possibly another button to allow an event to be added to the calendar from the stream area).

There is a list of blog titles, a list of discussion titles, this would just be a list of calendar events and if you want to go on to the full Calendar view, click on a button.

If the owner of the calendar always wants to go straight to calendar view, they can switch 'stream view' to no when installing the app.

For example, click on Calendar app in dashboard or your/other member profile and see in the stream:

Top right corner = Button saying 'Full Calendar View' or something similar to go outside the stream and (perhaps) a button beside it saying 'Create New Entry' to quickly add a new entry to the calendar in the normal pop up but stay inside the stream area when finished.

Below, in the stream, a list of events on or after today's date:

17 Nov.........2pm-6pm..............Shopping in London
18 Nov.........All Day...................Joomla Conference in Earls Court
23 Nov.......7pm..........................Dinner with A N Other

etc etc

The title of the event can link directly to the calendar outside the stream (as with blogs/discussions) or pop up details of the event (as in the actual calendar pop up) inside the stream.

I agree 100% the Calendar is correct in the current way it is displayed outside the stream and needs all the space, but my request is not to change the Calendar display outside the stream but to add an initial summary event view in the stream with the option to continue on to the calendar outside the stream by the method described above.

Any chance of this going into EasySocial version 1.2, even in the most simple form (list of events in stream area - as in the Blog list for example - with a button to go to the main calendar)?

We're currently focusing on groups first before we shift our focus anywhere else
