Can I get your expert view on whether this is a bug to fix:

I have a GROUP CATEGORY LAYOUT MENU ITEM with an allocated non-default Joomla template at: mysite /esc2018teams

Then I have a SINGLE GROUP LAYOUT MENU ITEM again with the same non-default Joomla template at: mysite / esc2018teams/499

When I'm looking at that single group layout menu item front-end, there's the link just under the banner to the category which is.. mysite /groups/categories/27-esc2018/all/latest

Shouldn't that link check for and respect any created menu items for that particular category instead of just being constructed based on the main groups page? The way it is now, it ignores my templating and routes back to the core template (where all my other ES groups would be)

Thanks for thinking about this!
Hi Andy,

It seems that it is working fine on my end and yours as it will change to it respective template set on the backend. It is changing to green header and your main is blue header.

Your esc2018teams menu:

Or maybe i have replicated them wrongly, it would be best if you can provide us with more details on how to replicate this issues. Please advice.

Hi Abdul... If you follow the 2 steps on my prior post (sorry if I wasn't clear) you should see where the templating / routing error kicks in.. Maybe explaining a bit better is below:

1) Go to mysite /esc2018teams

2) Click on the link under the group banner to 'Every Step Counts 2018 Teams' (this is the link to the group category page). It loads /groups/categories/27-esc2018/all/latest which carries the site default template.. I think (and want!) it to load my menu item page for that group category which is /esc2018teams (and has a different template style assigned to it)

Hi there,

Oh, i understand it now. In order for you to achieve this, you need to assign a menu items for all groups as these "/groups/categories/27-esc2018/all/latest" are displayed on groups sections. It is loaded on ajax call and will shown base on all groups.

You need to create a new all groups menu items, and then assign those template for it menu. Currently, that how it is currently. I have created a menu item name 'Groups' (hidden on frontend) and you can accessed them at /groups and assigned a non-default joomla template for it.

Please give it a try and see how it goes.

OK thanks - That works for the time being based on how I use groups - but I had hoped going forward it would have been possible to separately template group categories based on the template applied to the 'group category' menu item - rather than having it all dominated by whatever template is applied to that overall 'group' menu item.

I have no idea how technically impossible or impractical doing that would be. Maybe it's more a feature request than a bug report then, if the current behaviour is consistent with how other sections of EasySocial work (eg Events)

Hi there,

Yes, that how it should behave currently. It would be best if you can submit a feature request regarding this issues by creating a new ticket on the forums and set it to "Feature Request", so everyone else could vote for it, the more people request on this, and we will priority consider it.

Thanks for your understanding Andy

OK thanks. I'll do that. Doubt many people will vote though as it's a very niche request based on how advanced people's use of groups is. I'll edit this post shortly with the URL of the request thread in case anyone is following and does want to vote on it!

EDIT: Here's the link to the feature request: https://stackideas.com/forums/es-groups-routing-based-on-category-menu-item-to-allow-category-templating
