After upgrading to v5, using the Print icon of a blog, a window pops-up and I get an error:

"Error 404:NOT FOUND!This domain name has just been registered."

Cheers,
G
Hey Gilles,

Is it possible for you to provide us with the back end and FTP access to your site to check on this issue? I tried this locally but can't seem to reproduce this issue. This is what I get when I clicked on the "Print" link, http://screencast.com/t/Sk98RJF43PR

Hm, it looks like there are some routing issues here. Is it possible for you to provide us with the ftp access?

Hey Gilles,

Thanks! Okay, this is confirmed as a bug and this will be addressed in 5.0.17. This problem only seems to occur when using a single post layout.

Also, on this same single post page,
1. How do I remove the author bio at the bottom?
2. How do I add, at the bottom, the comments for the post as well as the commenting window?
3. ETA of .17 release?
Cheers,
G

Here's a quick fix Gilles, download and upload it into /administrator/components/com_easyblog/themes/default/blogs/ . Then edit your menu and re-select your entry again.

To remove the author bio, this can be disabled in the option "Show Author Box". As for the comments, I don't really get you.

Thanks, I'll try the fix in a few minutes.

regarding the comments. Let's see if I can clarify.
Something is very odd... another bug. Go to the URL I provided below.
You'll see a list of latest entries on the left and the main BlogSingleEntry in the component window.
The left side indicates 2 comments, the main window, for the same blog ("Keeping it Loose")... shows 0 comments.

What's going on here?

Also, when there are comments, I want them to show at the bottom of the post, along with the commenting input box.

Thanks. The author box setting worked.
Still issues:

1. Uploaded the file you provided... print icon still generates the error.
2. Comment issues as described above.

Hey Gilles,

It should be fixed now. We have changed the routing behavior on EasyBlog 5 and use a single way to generate item id's on the site. The previous options such as "Use current menu id" are no longer available because these options causes lots of duplicate urls and is bad for SEO. The print link should work fine now.

As for the comment issues, it looks like the "built in comments" are disabled. I have enabled it and it works fine now

Correct, the Print icon no longer generates the error. Thank you.

1. The Print feature prints the entire page including the sidebar. Is there a way to only print the blog entry?
2. re: Comments - are you referring to the "Enable Comments" setting? if so, it's odd that the upgrade disabled it.
3. The look of my comments has changed. How do I revert to my original look? (see attached for previous look).
4. What is the difference between using the JCE editor and the built-in EB Composer? - which do you recommend? pros/cons?

Cheers,
G

Hey Gilles,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Please find the response to your inquiries below:

1. The Print feature prints the entire page including the sidebar. Is there a way to only print the blog entry?

Hm, looks like Joomla is trying to force the URL if you have a menu item associated with the post. I have applied some fixes and it should work fine now.

2. re: Comments - are you referring to the "Enable Comments" setting? if so, it's odd that the upgrade disabled it.

Hm, this is strange but I have turned on the "Built in comments" options under the comment settings.

3. The look of my comments has changed. How do I revert to my original look? (see attached for previous look).

This is a new minimalistic and responsive design which we have added in EasyBlog 5. The old design was removed altogether because:

i) It is not responsive.
ii) It has a very aging looks.

4. What is the difference between using the JCE editor and the built-in EB Composer? - which do you recommend? pros/cons?

If you are using the WYSIWYG editor (JCE, TINYMCE, JCK), the operation of the composer behaves pretty similarly like previous versions. If you are using "Composer Editor" as the editor, you have all the new blocks and fancy post templates.

The pros of using the new Composer:

1. Composing is a breeze. You don't have to worry about html codes or figuring out how to align your content.
2. Lots of possibilities with the list of blocks available. You can even embed vimeo, slideshare, youtube and a whole load of widgets.
3. You can create pre-defined post templates
4. It is new

The cons:

1. Learning curve. (Since many users are still stuck in the WYSIWYG editor era, there is some learning curve here)

By the way, may I please request that if you have any further inquiries, to start a new forum thread instead of posting them here? It is much easier to manage if you keep 1 post to only 1 question since there are several moderators working at the same time.

Yes, Mark, I'll keep these issues on this thread and will open new issues separately.

1. Print issue: Still there, sidebars printing at bottom of article.
3. re: The look of my comments has changed: Are there alternate looks or are we stuck with this single look?
4. Composer: Can you point me to the documentation/tutorials for this so I can review it and pass it on to my client as well?

Cheers,
G

Hey Gilles,

Please find my response below:

1. Print issue: Still there, sidebars printing at bottom of article.

This fix will only be in 5.0.18 I replaced the file /administrator/components/com_easyblog/includes/post/post.php with my local version and the print link works fine now.

3. re: The look of my comments has changed: Are there alternate looks or are we stuck with this single look?

Unfortunately right now there is no other layout available.

4. Composer: Can you point me to the documentation/tutorials for this so I can review it and pass it on to my client as well?

I am still updating it as we speak but it will be located in http://stackideas.com/docs/easyblog/administrators/composing

And.... I looked at the Composer documentation. It's incredibly incomplete. How can I possibly provide this to my client without them saying "What?! This is not documentation! This does not help me in using the software!"

The "Blocks" documenation only has two completed entries!
http://stackideas.com/docs/easyblog/administrators/composing/composer-blocks

Blocks are the foundation of this editor, I ask once again how can you possibly release software without first creating the documentation / instructions for your users?

Hey Gilles,

Thanks for the heads up on this. Currently we are in the midst of updating easyblog documentations and the content will be constantly updated each day. I will forward this concern to our person in charge and hopefully they can speed up the process.
