Hello,

The Innovative Users Group is having trouble with their installation of EasyDiscuss.

We finally got the email parser working with a pop3 account. However, after parsing a message, it apparently fails to delete the message or to mark it as "read". The next time the parser runs, it parses the message and sends it out again.

I do not believe there is an email loop involved. As far as I can tell, the email account is not receiving any notifications, so it is not getting a notification that it sent out a notification.

So, I have a couple of specific questions...

1. Can y'all confirm that whether your code is attempting to delete the message after parsing, or is it just trying to mark it as having been read?

2. Can y'all confirm that this deletion or "marking as read" normally works with POP3? (I'm guessing most of your customers use IMAP)

I believe y'all already have access information to the site. If you need it again, we can send it again.

It was Mark Lee who worked with us the most when we were trying to get the email account set up, so he may have the access info.

And, one last thing. Could y'all copy me on communication for this? My email is scott@quipugroup.com. I work for a company that takes care of the server all this is running on. Although I don't normally take care of Joomla! and its components.

Regarding the above, when you say parse the message and send it out again, do you mean the email parse re-process your email content and add the same email content as new topic in your EasyDiscuss?

EasyDiscuss will not delete your email item but EasyDiscuss will mark the email item as 'read' after the processing.

2. Can y'all confirm that this deletion or "marking as read" normally works with POP3? (I'm guessing most of your customers use IMAP)


EasyDiscuss should work correctly even if you are using POP3. If this is not the case, can you give us the account details so that we can take a look at your issue?

We usually dont keep the login details from our customer thus you might need to resend all the required account details so that we can investigate your issue again You may add your account details in your this thread under the 'site details' section and only we support from Stackideas can see your site details

We no longer use kayako helpdesk thus all community will be carry out in our forum

Hey Mohamed,

I am sorry that delay of this reply,

I can able to access in your Joomla backend now, when I tried to click `test connection` then I hitting this : [CLOSED] IMAP connection broken (server response) , it seems like system unable to connect with your mail server.

May i know do you have double check and see is it insert correctly regarding with your mail server login credentials in Easydiscuss email parser settings?

I'm afraid that was due to a bug in your software. Even after setting it to be a pop3 account, your display reverts to imap. So, if someone saves the settings again, it gets reset to imap, which isn't going to work in our case.

I just reset it to pop3, and verified that it works.

So, maybe one of y'all can try to look at it again to see why we are getting duplicate emails.

And if you have to change any of the settings, PLEASE remember to reset the account type to POP3 before saving.

Yes, that was bug on our end, by the way this one already solved in your site.

In the meanwhile, I've created some test discussion post in your site, I can able to reproduce this issue. By the way, Can i have the permission help you update to latest version of Easydiscuss first?

And is it possible create a FTP user account and provide us with this FTP account access so we can troubleshoot on this?

We already applied some fix in these 2 files in your site
JoomlaFolder\components\com_easydiscuss\classes\mailbox.php
JoomlaFolder\components\com_easydiscuss\classes\mailqueue.php

it should work fine now, can you give it a try now?

Note : After a few hours of code debugging, it looks like POP3 does not have the option mark the item as seen or read.
To resolve this problem, EasyDiscuss will need to delete processed items from your POP3 e-mail account.
