First of all thanks for EasySocial its a great piece of software my site is the better for using it, secondly and I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, as I may have assumed something that wasn't the case.

My site is sending out to many emails and in a lot of cases to people that no longer regularly visit the site so there has been complaints about it

... it would be a lot better if you could select to get a daily, or weekly, or monthly email notification update

... anyway In the backend under ALERTS I set everything to only SYSTEM notifications and switched off EMAIL Notifications as I assumed that in the frontend of the site in the user's Notification Settings menu that meant that the users would be able to pick and choose whether they got system or email notifications or both or as some of them prefer nothing.

That hasn't worked as now no email notifications go out anymore, not that I'm complaining nor are the majority of my users who didn't want email notifications, but the ones who do like getting email notifications aren't happy about it.
Hi Cathy ,

Thanks for your compliment.

Sorry for late reply to this, regarding with your email notification didn't sent out email to your user issue who do like get the email notification, can you provide us with your Joomla backend and Cpanel access so we can help you check on this?

May i know do you have setup Cronjob in your site yet? Because system is required setup cronjob to help process send out the email notification automatically.

... it would be a lot better if you could select to get a daily, or weekly, or monthly email notification update

Thanks for your suggestion, you can always request this feature from our voice page http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial so everyone else could vote for it, the more people request on this, and we will priority consider it.

Evening Arlex

No worries re reply I'm on New Zealand time so don't expect immediate responses to my posts, as for your request for Joomla backend and Cpanel access much as I trust your company, policy is not to allow this type of access to the site

Your second question regarding setting up Cronjob for the email notifications, when I originally changed the site to use EasySocial instead of Kunena I did set up a crontab, but after a couple of weeks of using it my hosting company blocked my site, it turns out they have security/auditing program that is designed to catch bad sites (ie spammers) and having a site that was sending out the same number of emails at regularly defined intervals triggered the security protocols, I was able to point my hosting company to your company recommendation about using a crontab and once they had checked my site was OK they switched it back on, but given it was likely to happen again if I kept using a crontab I switched over to page load which meant that my email notifications became very random and also different quantities each time so no upsetting the security program, I have been using page load since last year and everything has been working fine, up until two days ago when I switched off EMAIL notifications in ALERTS as I assumed it was a default setting for emails not a stop them all together setting.

Re my suggestion I have already upvoting similiar suggestions in the Voice page and have but I can't find it also put in a suggestion on the same subject.

Hey Cathy,

Thanks for understand.

Hmm, that was hard for us to tell you what is the issue causing this without access in your site.

Based on you described about the cronjob at above, do you mention that you set up crontab on your server SSH?

If yes, did you try check your crontab command is it set up correctly?

To check this, you can add this command in your SSH and temporary set your cron time interval to 1 minute, so your server will send a response in you mailbox :

MAILTO=youremailaddress@hotmail.com

up until two days ago when I switched off EMAIL notifications in ALERTS as I assumed it was a default setting for emails not a stop them all together setting.

May i know which email notification you switch off? Perhaps you can provide us some screenshot regarding this as well?

Hi Arlex

I set up the cronjobs in cpanel using your company instructions here

http://stackideas.com/docs/easysocial/administrators/cronjobs/cpanel-cronjobs

It worked perfectly all the email notifications were being sent out at regularly scheduled intervals, but as I said yesterday it caused problems with my hosting company, this was one of the messages I received at the time

We have received information from our spam protection provider that your domain has been flagged as sending SPAM email to other individuals.
As a result, we’ve no choice but to suspend your account ...

Once I'd got myself un-suspended I switched off cronjobs and went to page load and haven't had a problem since then.

As requested am attaching a couple of pictures, I really don't have a problem not getting email notifications, but in ALERTS it says

Manage the default values for alerts that are available on the site.

which I took to mean that in the frontend of the site the users could change the default settings to suit themselves, not that it would stop all email notifications.

Hi Cathy,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply.

The system settings from the backend is actually a default settings for all the users, especially for the user that just registered on your site. However users can still change these settings from their notification settings at the frontend based on their needs.

However if you want to restrict the user to edit their email notification settings, you can download the attachment below and place it inside your /components/com_easysocial/themes/wireframe/profile/ folder to hide the settings.

Evening Ezrul

Much as I appreciate your post and attachment

This is what I assumed would happen re the system settings (backend) and notification settings (frontend) so I was expected those users that had changed their frontend settings from the default "no email" or were already getting email notifications would continue to get them, but no user on site is getting email notifications anymore even when they have email notifications switched on in the frontend.

Hey Cathy,

Can you check if those emails are in the mail activities area at the back end and they are all marked as sent?

I double checked this last night by checking a couple of friends email notifications settings in the backend to make sure they had email notifications switched on for "CONVERSATIONS" in the frontend, I then send them a message and went and checked the backend "EMAIL ACTIVITY" and found it to be empty, so this isn't a case of the emails being created and then not being sent out, they are not being created in the first place

Hey Cathy,

Is it possible for you to provide us with the back end and FTP access to your site to check on this issue?

Hey Cathy,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. If you can't provide us with these access, I am not sure how to assist you. You are blindfolding us and asking us to fix an issue blindfolded

Thanks for taking time in your weekend to post its appreciated from my point of view while I would quite like the email notifications to work on the site, its not a critical function and I can live without them working.

Hi Cathy,

I just tried to reproduce the issue in my local instance but it seems like the email notification is working correctly as it should. Without direct access to your site its quite hard to tell what went wrong with your email system. It might be due to the misconfiguration or some hidden bug in our easysocial system. The only way to find out the issue is to having direct access to your site and check it directly.

By the way if for some reason you manage to provide us with your Joomla and FTP access, kindly let us know and we will assist you with the issue directly.

Hey Cathy,

To be honest with you, this is worst than finding a needle in a haystack In order for us to perform our jobs and to ensure that the extension is working fine, we need to see what is wrong by debugging the site.

If we can't reproduce this on our end and we don't have access to troubleshoot this, I am afraid we might not be able to assist you here. Please understand that we are not trying to be difficult but there are just too many possibilities / settings / setup

I am more than happy for you to put this problem on hold as I can quite happily live without email notifications on the site, should the next upgrade fix this problem I will report back here

Thank you for taking the time to look at this
