Tech Support:
I made the leap to EasySocial from JomSocial now that there is enough integration with EasyBlog, EasyDiscuss, and Komento. As I am setting up the new site it dawned on me that I cannot use my site member zip code search module because it was based upon the zip code database files from JomSocial. So what am I to do?
1) Should I install both JomSocial and EasySocial. Can they co-exist and can they draw from the same database without my having to redundantly add the member to the second database? Or is there a way to just use EasySocial and give it the names of the entry tables that the module needs?
Here is what is requested...
The ZIP field is not linked with the corresponding JS field. You have do do this before you are able to use this extension.

The table "jos_community_users" can not be found. JS Radius search doesn´t work without this table.
The table "jos_community_fields_values" can not be found. JS Radius search doesn´t work without this table.

2) Could I modify the module to search for the EasySocial equivalents?
The JS Radius Search installs its own zip code database and then does its wizardry by comparing to the zip code field and then returns the name of the members closest to the search and provides the name and location with a link to open up the user’s profile.
If you have any ideas, then please fire away.

Hello Michael,

What does the zip code search module does? If it's merely searching for users with specific zip codes, you could try request the original author of that module and request them to create one for EasySocial If you have contacted them and if they are reluctant to do it, let us know and I will see what I can do to help you here.

Since EasySocial stores the latitude and longitude along with the address (We do geocode them when you save your profile). Radius searching is way much easier than JomSocial. This makes things even simpler for the module. You should try getting in touch with the module developer

Mark:
Working with the German based developer has been very slow to respond to anything. At first this component only worked in kilometers. It took about 4 months before they made changes to miles for the American market. I used then because they were the only JomSocial based Zip Code Radius Search option. If I had gone with CB or SobiPro, then there were several other options.
The goal is simple as I wanted a “Member Locator” feature on the site. The user clicks the tab and then types in the zip code and the radius and all of the members in that range are displayed. Here is a link to the search page.

Give it a try and type in 84057 for the zip code.
This site is using JomSocial for the activity stream portion of the site (Only visible to registered users). I would love to never use them again. I am really enjoying watching EasySocial grow and improve in features, as it renders JomSocial more and more irrelevant for future projects.

A Radius search would be a neat addition. Certainly bigger priorities right now, but it is worth looking into for the future. Especially if it was integrated into the advanced search. This would create one more portal of finding people with like minded interest.

Yep, we're trying to see if we can add radius searches based on the "address" field in the advance search
