Hi there,

We are still developing our site and we are in the middle of many changes made. We made design/css modifications and translation of the EasySocial component.

We want to upgrade from EasySocial 1.3.30 to EasySocial 1.4.2. Will these modifications already performed be lost? i.e. on the upgrade from 1.3.30 to 1.4.2 are the EasySocial files deleted and then reinstalled? If it's like that then all the changes will be lost, is our understanding correct?

Regards,

Phivos Constantinou
Hey Phivos,

It actually depends on how you made these modifications. If they are done with custom css files that are not modifying the core files, you should be pretty safe

Dear Mark,

Thanks for the prompt response. We moved forward in order to update the component but we faced the issue with the PHP Zip Library. We followed the instructions as per the link
http://stackideas.com/docs/easysocial/administrators/setup/zip-library

We uploaded the php.ini in the root folder but probably this is not what is needed. Please let us know what we did wrong.

Hi Phivos,

You can actually request your webhosting service provider to setup zip library for you as php.ini file is located inside your server, not your joomla root folder.

Dear Ezrul,

We contacted our host Go Daddy and they insisted that there is no php.ini file located in the server and they let us know that we have to create a ".user.ini" file and place it in the root folder in order to get a cpanel environment access.

We created the .user.ini file and placed the code:
sudo yum install php-zip
sudo httpd restart

but nothing changes. Please let us know what else we can do or even contact Go Daddy again.

In addition, right now we cannot access the EasySocial in the backend as the component stacked in the beginning of the update procedure and it requires the zip library to be fixed in order to move forward.

Dear Ezrul,

It was a good time for us to switch host provider as Go Daddy did not offer sufficient support and there was a lot of fuss every time we needed something from them. We switched to Cloudaccess.net. We managed to overcome the obstacle of the zip library and performed the update. But, in the backend the EasySocial still shows the previous version 1.3.30 and that we have it outdated. Can you check it please?
