Easysocial translation

Hi support,

We want to translate the EasySocial component to greek language. We noticed that the component "reads" from the english file i.e from the parth root/language/en-GB although we have greek as the selected functional language. We noticed that other users faced the same issue as well.

So,
1. Shall we tranlsate the english file?

2. Having in mind that the greek language file is translated already by around 20% can we continue translating the greek file "el-GR.com_easysocial.ini" and once finished rename it to "en-GB.com_easysocial.ini" and place it in the path: root/language/en-GB? Will it work this way in order to save time?

3. We noticed taht there are differences between the greek and the english ".ini" files. Therefore, we cannot translate the greek file and rename it to the english one as per point 2 above. Is that correct? We attach the greek and english ".ini" files for your convenience

I am really sorry that delay of this reply, please find your answer in your queries below :

1. Shall we tranlsate the english file?

If you already set Greek is default language in your frontend, the system will look for this language file -> el-GR.com_easysocial.ini

2. Having in mind that the greek language file is translated already by around 20% can we continue translating the greek file "el-GR.com_easysocial.ini" and once finished rename it to "en-GB.com_easysocial.ini" and place it in the path: root/language/en-GB? Will it work this way in order to save time?

If you set English language by default from backend > extension > language manager, it will work this way.

3. We noticed taht there are differences between the greek and the english ".ini" files. Therefore, we cannot translate the greek file and rename it to the english one as per point 2 above. Is that correct? We attach the greek and english ".ini" files for your convenience

Actually I am still confusing on this, because if you set Greek language by default, system just will see on this language file el-GR.com_easysocial.ini instead of en-GB.com_easysocial.ini , unless some of the greek language string is not get translated, the system will try refer back to English language.

Perhaps you can provide us with your Joomla backend and FTP access so we can help you check on this?

Please check the following:
Once you make a change in the "el-GR.com_easysocial.ini" file, this is not reflected in the front end. But if you make a change in the "en-GB.com_easysocial.ini" file this is reflected in the front end, despite the fact that the EasySocial selected language in the back end is the greek language.

Thanks for getting back to us quickly.

I've checked in your site, first I am not really sure which language string you mentioned which is not get translated.

But you can try take a look of my following explanation before you give me some feedback regarding this.

#1. Take a look of this screenshot : http://screencast.com/t/TwroBndfSGu ("Browse users" string is not translated)
#2. So I go check this file first -> JoomlaFolder/language/el-GR/el-GR.com_easysocial.ini
#3. Then I found out this string commented ( and haven't translate it yet


// LINE 99

; COM_EASYSOCIAL_TOOLBAR_BROWSE_USERS="Browse Users"

#4. After that I directly remove this ( and modified the string to :


// LINE 99

; COM_EASYSOCIAL_TOOLBAR_BROWSE_USERS="Browse Users"



// Replace with

COM_EASYSOCIAL_TOOLBAR_BROWSE_USERS="Αναζήτηση χρηστών"


#5. This language string get translated now. Check my second attached screenshot below.

By the way, It seems like only 22% complete for Geek language in Easysocial, which mean that still a lot of string will display English language.

Dear Arlex,

Thank you for the prompt response. No this is not working for us. Please do the below steps in order to reproduce the issue. We want to rename the term "New group" located in the left and towards the middle of the page as per the attached photo.

1. Once you go to rename the line number 8573
; COM_EASYSOCIAL_NEW_GROUP="New Group"

in the file "el-GR.com_easysocial.ini" this is not working.

BUT

2, If you go to rename the line number 8582
COM_EASYSOCIAL_NEW_GROUP="New Group"
in the file "en-GB.com_easysocial.ini" this is working.

How can this happen from the moment that the component should "read" the data from the "el-GR.com_easysocial.ini"? It is very weird that it has worked for you in the above example. Please let us know if you can reproduce the issue.

I've checked in your site, It seems like you point wrong the LINE number of the language string.

By the way, can you take a look of my attached screenshot below, you will see "New Group" and "New Event" there, I already translated "New Group" to Greek language under this file "el-GR.com_easysocial.ini" , can you see user profile that " New Group" language is it get translated?

Perhaps you can my instruction here, remove that this semi-colon ; then translate that word to Greek language > save it and see is it can work?

Dear Arlex,

Thank you for the prompt response. So all the problem is coming from the code "; " that is placed in front of the coding. When this code is placed in the front of the code, the component "reads" from the English .ini file.

In order to solve the issue we have to remove this code from all the lines, is this correct?

If yes, as the lines are many thousands we have to use the function:
find: "; "
and replace with: "" (i.e. nothing)

if we perform this action can you think of any negative outcome in the code? As per my understanding there will not be any, please confirm.

Hey Phivos,

Yes, that is correct. The character ";" in the language file for Joomla means that it is commented out. If it is commented out, it will then fallback to the default English (UK) language.

I don't think it is advisable for you to do a search and replace of ";" because there could be a language string variable which contains ";".
