hey guys, looks like the easysocial search is too accurate and therefore not really handy for the users.
given the example of 2 (of course already correct indexed) users named mark and marko to replicate:

prob1:
when you type, for example into the easysocial search module, "mar" (the first 3 letters of both names) you'd expect that both results come up - in fact: none of them are shown
if you expand this to "mark" you'd expect the same - mark and marko should show up - but now only mark (which is matching 100%) is showing up.
to get to the result marko you would have to enter the whole name again, that's the only way to see this user.

prob2:
while we're at our last search (marko) we stay in the search box and remove the last letter "o" so that in fact we now have "mark" in the box. funny though now even mark is not displayed, you don't get any results at all. looks like you have to actively type something in order for the search to work.. so in fact you would need to go back from "marko" to "mar" and then add "k" and at that point the search starts working. that's not very intuitive and I guess many endusers on the site won't get that ^^
I agree, the search should be smart enough to start scanning after only a few characters are input. Not an entire TRUE string of characters.

I concur, I had to buy a search module because of the new way the search bar works through Joomla smart search, which is actually dumb and not user friendly at all. I wish the Stackideas team would have keep the old search functionality it was great!!!! Just my opinion

Thanks for the heads up on this guys but we're just relying on how Joomla's search behaves but we'll see what can be done with the "suggested" results. If I recall correctly, Smart Search has another table solely used for such text hinting.

I'm curious if this has to do with Joomla's smart search.

Hello Josh,

In a way, it is because we need to fetch the full name. But let me discuss with the team and see if there are work around for this. At the mean time, let's not complicate things further until we come up with our findings I am sure there's a work around for this

looks like there was no change in 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 on this - hope it's still on the list and wasn't forgotten

in addition: to have a really complete search a plugin for the content is really badly needed (things you share in the stream as status text / links / fetched text from links.....)

I can confirm this is still true with v1.2.7, the search has to have at least 4 characters and its a hit and miss in my end. Sometimes I have to delete the keyword and try it again for the Ajax to kick in. I also have this issue with a particular user named Bassem. If I type "bass" I get "No Result Found" but if I type the last name I get a result. Like Alex is saying, I think search in ES is most important else people won't be able to see each other unless the link to Users is provided but in our case that's a no no.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hello Peter,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

I believe our smart search suggestion has become 'less accurate' now as it will return the result based on the some keywords that are being entered in the search bar. We are still fine tuning the smart search from time to time to improve the usability for the user to conveniently search for something. Thank you for the heads up on this.
