This came to light in my other thread about SEF.
In order to keep things organised, I'm putting the details here.

Initially, I had problems with my main site after updating EB; I've since restored from backup prior to the update and that is functional again. I've also restored that backup into a dev version of the site and retraced my steps.

The symtpoms are:
Recent Updates page: profile menu in the ES bar works. Search opens the animated window but never completes.
On a user profile page: the dropdown profile menu doesn't work here. Clicking to send a Message doesn't work
By retracing my steps from the restored working version, this behaviour starts as soon as EB is updated to this version.

As it feels like a JQuery conflict, I started to disable and remove possible culprits:
JBolo - removed
Facebook Slider module: altered its parameter so it doesn't load JQuery
RokAjaxSearch - disabled
HotLogin: disabled
Optimiser: switched off defer Javascript option, then disabled
EasyBlog - purged cache

Also purged site cache at each step.

I'll hold off updating again for now on the live site, but I'm interested to know what might be causing this so that I can fix and update.

Thanks,
Steve
Just updating:

I saw the update to 3.9.15278 and installed it on the test site. A quick test looks like it's all working properly again

I'll give it a thorough test later then do the update on the live site.

Thanks

Hello Steve,

Hm, it's pretty difficult for me to say what really went wrong but as far as I know, EasyBlog and EasySocial shouldn't have conflicts with one another as we all our extensions concurrently locally Is there any way for us to test this on your site?

Hi Mark,

Yes, I imagine there's something external going on here.
I've added the details below to get into the backend; this is on the dev copy of the site where I've updated EB.
I know this isn't the registered site, though it is a sub-domain of my live site domain, is this OK? it's there purely for testing. The site was transferred over with Akeeba, so it's a clone of the live site.

I'm just thinking it might be easier for me if we can work out what's going on there and I'll reproduce any fix, or backup from there and transfer to the live site.
If that's a problem, then let me know and we'll do it on the live site.

Thanks,
Steve

Hello Steve,

I was unable to find your issue, the dor could you elaborate.
It seems like when I in to your front end admin tools is returning error, when disable it I am able to log in. Is this intentional?
Please provide FTP access for further assist.

Thanks:)

Hi Khairul,

Sorry, I remembered to release Admin IP Whitelist for Admin Tools, but forgot that it is set to prevent Superuser access to front end. I've just switched that off so that superuser can log in to the front end now.

I've provided FTP details, also a user name and password for a standard user for front end login.

Sorry for the problem,
Steve

An example of the problem: if you login to the front as the superuser and try the search for marvin, the search doesn't complete. I just noticed that the super user can click the message button but this wasn't working for me earlier as a standard user.

Now logging in as marvin, i see that the message window does open.

Logging in with my own account, the message window doesn't open (details for my account included below).

In summary: the search on the ES toolbar doesn't seem to be working
Super user can send a message
Standard user can send a message
My user (publisher) cannot send a message.

Permissions maybe?
On the live site, rolled back to before the EB update, all functions working normally. I've included the live URL in the notes below, all usernames and passwords are the same if you want to compare

Thanks,
Steve
